Default conversion chart for jd seed plates

Have a JD Planter Model 290. it has 3 sets of plates with it, none of which is the one suggested by the seed company. where can I find a conversion chart between jd cast iron and lustran?? have looked all over the internet. I would also like a chart that tells what plate to use for different seeds..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have made a homemade XL spreadsheet chart I use. Be glad to send it to you. Don't guarantee accuracy, but I think it is pretty good. Would attach it here but can't seem to get it to work. Send me an E-Mail to jbooth1013@mchsi.com and I will send it. If it is not what you want, you shouldn't have to push the "delete" button very hard to get rid of it. The spreadsheet just compares dimensions.

Mike ... I gave up on that idea, my 246 JD ate up the plastic plates. I ordered some from JD and bought some off ebay.

Here are a couple charts out of my manual that I copied from another manual sorry they may be a little hard to read ...

Thanks a bunch! Called JD this morning, but dude wasn't very savvy on seed plates, He did however give me an approximate price. roughly 50$ a piece..
Wanting to plant some other stuff also. like beans, squash maybe...could get expensive..
Looked at pdf files you listed , just not sure how to measure or call a seed. other than round and flat... going to save the files though, will come in handy.
So thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. I also want to thank you folks for taking the time to help me out. I really means a lot. Mike

Below is a blurb pulled from a previous post.

Thank you for posting explaining the cells in the plates. I assume the higher the of cells the closer the plants will be on the row and the smaller the of cells the further apart the plants will be on the row. Is this correct? Thanks again for your information.

You won't see plates listed for those crops. You may find "blank" plates. You take them and a small file and make your own plates IF the corn/milo/bean plates won't work. I've planted sunflowers with corn plates.

High cell count will drop more seed per revolution. Also, the planter has adjustable gearing to change spacing. It's all explained in a #71 manual. (I've got one of those to sell too)

Back in the day, Deere offered an attachment to the #71 that was essentially a small seed planter that fit INSIDE of the #71 seed hopper. It would plant seed as small as the head of a pin. They're no longer available. The last ones in Deere's system sold for around $1200 per row.

For VERY small seed, take a look at PLANET Jr. row units. (Cole/Covington handles them)

I take the seed I want to plant and see which plate it fits into the best. Here's a link for the guide on ebay.
john deere planter plate reference sheets- garden seeds - eBay (item 250765633213 end time Feb-05-11 17:10:41 PST) .
Several years ago, before I knew any better, I planted sunflowers with a corn plate. Did a pretty good job, had several doubles, though. This was using an Allis Chalmers planter and adaptor with Lustran and JD plates. I'd kinda like to have one of those guides, just too tight with the greenbacks. My manual for a JD lister planter lists the JD plates like Blueriver posted. HTH Mark

Thanks again for all the info. I went on ebay last night and bought 3 sets of plates, based on the info you folks sent me...didn't know about the lustran ones so i just stuck with cast iron ones..15$ for each set..Whole lot cheaper than buying from jd....they want around 100$ a set of 2...
Now have to figure out how to pay for fertizer, lime, etc. to plant with.
