Chain Link Fence Drag Harrow?

/ Chain Link Fence Drag Harrow? #11
I had an old gate laying around, about 1" square tubing frame with field wire attached. I wired a piece of chainlink fence on it, attached a chain to the frame and tow it with my four wheeler. So far I only use it to break up cow pattys. I don't use any weight on it and it does the job. Good luck....

I searched for old threads, but they are too old and don't have photos anymore.

I am not spending almost $500 for a 6x8 drag harrow from TSC. I do have a 6x8 piece of chain link that was free.

So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Can anyone post a pic or two of your homemade Chain Link Fence drag harrow?

It will not be used to rip and smooth my grass, it will be used to break up/spread large amounts of cow manure in the fields.

Does the 4x4 go 18 or so inches after the fence or does it sit on the end?

Do I need side support?

End support?

Angle to tractor?

Here's mine

Not much to it--a couple lengths of chain, the fencing, 2x4s, an old T-post in the rear, and a few paver blocks for weight.

A homebrew three point harrow made using the proper spikes or tines from a hay or straw pick up may work better for you. If it plugs it can be lifted. :D

The benefit of using the chain link fence is that the manure piles get crumbled up very well and distributed evenly across the pasture. Spike harrow just don’t work well for this application.

I used an old 10' chainlink gate with additional weight.

I have no pics of it, but the property I bought last June had an old 4'W x 16'L galvanized tube frame chain-link-fence-filled gate that I didn't need as an actual gate. I attached my 5/16" chain to it & dragged it up & down my dirt "driveway" until it was pretty darn smooth . The frame helped add weight.

Edit: Looked pretty much like jinman's, but a little longer.

I don't have a picture, but I wrapped the chain link around a 4x4 post on both the front and back and it seemed to work pretty good.
