I had a breath-taking experience a little while ago. I want to buy a post hole digger for my small (tiny) tractor--a JD Model 670. I reviewed all of the postings in this forum and saw that Enlow in Tulsa had advertised a Leinbach digger for $285. Wow!! I pulled up the site and yes indeed, $285!! I called the company and talked to a very pleasant and helpful sales rep who informed me that $285 would buy me either a Model 7200 or Model 7300 digger. Great!! Then he referred me to a trucking firm that does much of their work. That's where the breath-taking part comes in. To transport this digger 550 miles from Tulsa to my home in Texas would cost $750, bringing the total cost to $1,035. I can buy this same digger locally for $425. I guess this taught me something, but I'm not sure what.

Shipping adds a whole new twist to this game. I picked up a brand new Leinbach PHD at an auction for $275..............
Haven't used it yet but, I hope it is as decent as I have read about here at TBN.Give Leinbach a call and see if they sell in Mother Texas

I would think that if you looked around you could find a better rate on freight than what you were quoted, however none would be as good as to warrant not buying the local PHD. Freight prices seem to have gone up quite a bit in the last five years, they blame it on fuel, however you also have the increased costs of equipment and labor.

Yes indeed, freight costs of almost three times the cost of the product would indeed take the breath away.

This doesn't sound right. I shipped my Kubota M8950 and 15' Rhino Flex-wing mower from Florida to Maryland for $1000.

I'm sure you can find other means of transporting that PHD for much less.

I agree, the shipping cost doesn't sound right. I bought my Cub Cadet 7360 from a JD dealer in Alabama and had it shipped to NH for $1000. With the FEL it's about 3500 pounds.

That quote for shipping seems a little high considering I am getting a f-250 crew cab delivered from seattle WA to coastal NC for $1050.00 /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Have them swing through Tulsa on the way to NC with your F-250. They can throw Glenn's PHD in the back. Problem solved./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
