I have a flair mower (60") that has a pretty good viberation. All the bearings are good and the shafts appear to be straight. The drive belt and idler pully are good. There are several cutters and the part that holds them missing. Could this be it ??? Where do I start ??? HELP It was free so maybe a good boat anchor! Huh

That is it, 99% likely. A flail needs all the blades and clevises in order to be in balance because the shaft spins over 2000 rpm., any blades missing cause destructive vibration.

LORDY, LORDY, LORDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not ready to become a boat anchor in any form.

You are missing knive hangers and grass slicers and that is

the only problem.

This problem with vibration is a "no problem" type of repair.

Until you can get grass slicers and new hangers you can do the following to

continue using it IF desired.

Please do the following repair exactly as I tell you to do it if you need to

continue using the flail mower.

On the flail mower rotor you will find a knive hanger which is opposite the

hanger that is missing or has broken or missing knives.

Remove the hanger and knives opposite the missing knives-hangers etc., and

this will bring the rotor back into balance for you.

Remove the hanger that has missing grass slicers. Remove the hanger and

knives opposite this one to maintain a balanced rotor.

This way you can safely use the flail mower without damaging it.

You will have rooster tails in the lawn or brush until you replace the knives

and hangers that are missing or damaged.

You can go back over thses areas to mow down the rooster tails if desired.

Be sure to purchase the replacement nylock nuts or use red loctite for the

knive hangers. Its a good idea to replace the hex bolts with Hex head cap

screws being "Allen Bolts" as it will save you many bashed fingers and your

allotment of &*()(*&^%$%^&*(*&^%$ words.

He said its a flair mower. It uses jets of settleen to burn the grass, weeds, shrubs and dandy lions. Then you pick it up in a wheel barrel.

No No, that's a flare mower you're thinking of. A flair mower cuts, conditions and braids the grass to give it a full bodied bouncy sheen.
