The tractor has R1's, a dif lock, and 2wd for those that wondered, and 150 pounds of front weights and filled rear tires. It is the same as the one in the previous post's liink, just a different color, and looks quite a bit heavier than the typical 48's I have seen at TSC and such.

Given that info (which would have been nice to know up front), your B6100E should handle the 42 incher. That said, you should still go into the deal accepting the likelihood of encountering frequent conditions under which your box blade work will be horsepower and/or traction limited.

I would buy the box blade. There is a big difference between the TSC BB and the Gannon. The hinged rear blade makes a big difference, it allows the BB to dig in going either direction. The fixed blades act as a skid shoe preventing the TSC model from digging in.

FWIW...I have B1700D which is just a few more HP than a B6100E...I have a 60" Bushhog brand (BX60) boxblade designed for smaller/lighter tractors (BX60)...
The bb works great and I can move a full box of earth or gravel anywhere, up or down...a big root or rock will occasionally catch a ripper tooth and stop the tractor...HOWEVER...

...If my tractor was not 4x4 and I did not have an FEL for forward weight I would not be able to use the bb efficientally at all...in 2wd if the cutting blade is set even slightly aggressive I get nowhere...

As others are pointing out, the Gannon's are very heavy duty attachments and you have a lightweight tractor. A heavy boxblade is good for digging and durability, but you have to lift it and pull it also, which may give your B6100 some trouble. The seller may be trying to say that your tractor would be better matched to a lighter boxblade so you'd get more work done... move more dirt that way. Unless someone is giving the Gannon away, you could probably find a standard boxblade for the same or fewer $$$.

Looking at it the other way, though, that might be one way to convince the CFO you need another tractor. :D

Somewhere on TBN amoungst these millions of post some one with a small CUT or maybe SCUT ruined a tire with a box blade because the lift arms were so short that the scarifier caught the tire. He could only lift it to a certain height or it would hit and one time he forgot. IMO that is a design flaw of the tractor. An implement should not hit the tire if the tractor is designed correctly regardless of the implement used and it should lift and lower to the full range of motion.Better check that out before spending the $$$ and hitching up and taking to the dirt piles.

I have a friend with a 95hp McCormick that also got a scarafier into the rear tire if he lifted the BB too high, another tractor design flaw I guess. He solved the problem by installing a set of the Pat's Easy Change.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I will get to see it in person next week (at their other store), and another person that knew more about them said they came off of similar sized tractors in a fleet buyout deal. If it checks out as solid, then I plan on getting it.

Have a ~5 1/2' Gannon Economy BB. Used it on a Case VAC. It was all the 3 ph could do to lift it empty. No big deal, just push the clutch in, gas 'er up, maybe slight reverse. Moved a lot of dirt until I upgraded 5 years later.

As a former b6000e owner I used to struggle with a 48 inch York rake if I hit anything larger than a small rock

The little bottas are excellent machines but really only designed for mowing, tilling, light lifting and easy trenching work although I did mount a backhoe on mine and son of gun dug like crazy

You really don't have the weight to get a lot done with a box blade particularly with rippers

I would regularly get stuck with my York rake much less rippers
Unless maybe if you live where there is all sand and no rocks or roots
You can spread gravel and the like but I'm afraid you will find the rippers of no use

Good luck either way

sincerely
Joel
