I'm looking to purchase a logging winch for my JD 4210 and need some brands to look at and to the ones to stay away from. Any help would be great.
I tried the search but couldn't find what I was looking for.
Thanks

I bought a Norse new a few years ago and I have absoloutly no complaints, we run a farm and cut lots of wood at times, so it gets used quite heavily for a few weeks at a time and sits between seasons. Before that I used an acient farmi, don't know the model, it was rock solid and is still being used by the guy who actually owns it (not me, I just used it). I would highly recommend either one, I bought the Norse because I liked the dealer better and the price was less as well.

I'm currently looking for a log winch. You might check out forestry forum.com as there is a lot of information on winches.

Some recommendations include Tajfun, Farmi, and Wallenstein

I haven't made up my mind yet but it will most likely be one of the three I just listed

Let us know what you decide

Good luck

Any ideas what the Farmi Cost? There is one coming up on an auction here, it was new in 2003 and the Guy never used it.

I have a Fransgard V-4000. I have had it 3 years and no complains. It is rated to pull 8800 lbs.

2800 for the Wallenstein is a great price! How long ago did you purchase it? I have a quote of 3400 for the FX 90. Maybe I need to look at your dealer.

I have a 9 year old Farmi that has been a solid unit. Seems like there are lots of good choices for you if you stick with the well know manufacturers. I cant recall anyone bad mouthing their winch.

Find a used one.......... Farmi, fransgarrd, wallanstein........ I have a Farmi 601 and am at LEAST the third owner. this is an OLD unit that was obviously worked hard. Set of bearings and it works like new......... 13,200 # pulling capacity........

It is a beast!.

used ones hold their value, especially if they have had a bearing refresh! You will be surprised how much new ones cost (maybe not, but they are expensive). A used one may not be as pretty, but it will likely be just as functional.
