I'll be in the market soon for a new Woods PRD7200. My local dealer quoted $2930 including tax  I was wondering if it'd be cheaper elsewhere - can you folks recommend any dealers who can offer the same mower for a lower price, shipping included?

Alternately, any suggestions for another, cheaper 72" finish mower of comparable quality that requires no more than 20-22 hp at the PTO?

Thanks!

I would say do a search on rear finish mowers, and you will find many recommendations. There are several brands that people reported good thing about. I'm sure Woods have a dealer locator on their website.
I bought an used 72" Bush Hog brand mower that fits the bill for my need.

I did do a search here for finish mowers, and it seems that Woods was one of the more recommended makers. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a dealer with better prices on these mowers, even with shipping factored in. Now if someone can make a case for another maker of comparable quality but a lower price, I'd like to hear it :D

I've had two Befco mowers (had a 60", now an 84"). Both are solidly built and neither required any maintenance other then greasing, blade sharpening and one belt (on the 60" mower which I owned for 9 years).
Since both my mowers were bought used (as a package with a tractor), I can't quote a price for new...I'm pretty sure Befco prices are a bit lower then Woods or Land Pride.
However, I doubt you see any of the "quality" brands any cheaper then $2500 for a 72" mower, less tax and shipping.

I paid $2400.00 for my new PRD7200 three years ago. Land Pride makes good stuff. I paid the extra for the Woods because I mow about eight acres of yard with it. I bought a cheaper ($1200.00) 72" RFM mower many years back and it didn't hold up for my use.

How about something like this? Or you prefer buying a new one?

Woods 6' 3 point Finish Mower

This would be a real bargain. It looks like a Woods 72" RM660. The RM660 has most of the same major features that a PRD7200 has.

Hmm, that's not too far from me. Wonder if it could fit into the back of a Nissan Frontier pickup :p

I wasn't aware the RM660 came in rear discharge? The brochure I picked up last week only shows a side discharge in that model, and I'd prefer rear discharge.

I owned a RM660 and you are correct. They only come in side discharge. The discharge chute flips up or can be taken off for mowing close on the discharge side. The RM660 does an excellent job of dispersing clippings. The only negative I can say about them is if you hit something like a baseball or anything that is easily flung it will fling it hard and far enough to possibly injure someone or break something with the discharge chute up or off. I've launched baseballs while mowing ballparks 50 yards that were moving so fast I could barely see them fly.

Actually I wanted a side discharge to be able to collect the grass from windrows for compost temp. control. The only problem is that my mower moves so much air that the clippings are spread out in 3-4' wide area even with the chute down. With the chute up it will send clippings flying 8-10'. Never any issues with grass bunching up quite the contrary. I will have to build something to keep the grass in a nice windrow.
