I am interested in one of those Land Graders, or Utility Graders, like the one that Leinbach makes. Everything Attachments has a video of one and it looks kind of neat. I would consider buying one, but at that price I would love to try one out first. Does anyone know of any place in the North Carolina Triad area, (Winston Salem, Greensboro, High Point) that rents these things. I hate to drop a thousand or more dollars if I'm not going to like it. Thanks for any input.

Alex, I don't know about renting one, but I do know that there is not one single person here on TBN that has used one and did not like it. These graders are great.  Any and all of them, some are better than others, but they all seem to work good. A lot of guys have built their own just because they are on the costly side to purchase new.

Good luck in finding one that you can try out first.

I will second that^^^^^^^^^

I built a heavy duty model custom for my work with straight set blades for smoothing out lawn areas. It has reversible 96" double edged blades, weighs in about 950 lbs and cost about $900 to build.

Have you contacted Leinbachs directly about the price? Since you are so close to them it is much cheaper to go there and pick one up vs buying it through a place like everything attachments (they put about a 40% markup on Leinbach equipment)

Thanks for the comments and tips guys. Yes, I am very close to Leinbachs, about a 30 minute drive. I went there a few months ago, but I was comparing other stuff at the time. I wasn't aware of this land grader so did not inquire about them. I think I'll take a ride over there one day this week or next week.

I had the exact same reservations - Seemed like alot of $ for something that I never tried.
The first time I used mine I was totally convinced that I had not made a mistake.
If you can justify the expense for a good road tool I don't think you have to worry about not liking a grader - as the others have said.

Do a search for graders on this forum and see who lives near you and see if you can get them to come show you their new toy. If you lived anywhere near Florida, I would let you use mine for a couple of hours. The two main problems with that idea are, I am 500 miles away and my grader is homemade and weighs more than the typical grader, a lot more. If you have a 70 Hp tractor or larger, it shouldn't be a problem to use mine, but anything smaller is a little rough on the tractor. The drive to come borrow it, plus the drive to return it, at todays fuel prices would probably pay for one of your own anyway.

Alex -

I just ordered a Landpride GS1560 grader scraper from Sink's in Lexington this past Saturday to maintain my 400 foot gravel driveway. I looked at the comparable Leinbach and King Kutter models and the Landpride version is heavier built and had more adjustment in cutting edges plus it came with the scarifiers.

It should be here in a week or so, I'll let you know how it does.

Box blade for moving rock, rake for dressing it up, straight blade for snow removal. I have 3/4" limestone and the rake works great for finish work.
