So I almost ordered a Iowa farms tooth bar from Ebay and then I ran across this thread... Got my Iowa Farms toothbar today - TractorByNet.com Kinda liking the flat tooth bar. I have never had a tooth bar before and just want to make the right decision the 1st time. Which is better? :confused2:

I don't own a tooth bar but I have been looking at them. They say that the flat tooth bars are better because they can be left on for back dragging.

I like the flat style but from what I've been reading I'm thinking they aren't as strong for bigger tractors. I am unable to find them on Iowa Farm web site?

I have had both types. the flats are better if you plan on back dragging. it level. I wouldn't worry about strength. they both can handle the tractor they fit. I presently have a flat. it works just as well as the other. I got both from WR Long. good luck and enjoy.

I have done a lot of research the last 3 weeks on tooth bars. Most of the manufacturers of the flat tooth bars will not make them for buckets larger than 60" anymore. They said they had trouble with the bars breaking. They did not want to risk their reputation on having them break. I was told they would make me one for my 66 " bucket, but they would not warranty it. A regular tooth bar the bar or plate is inside the bucket. If you lift with the teeth the force is against the bucket. With the flat tooth bar the bar is under the bucket and that is where they have had the problem with them breaking. You can also build your own. If you do just use a heavier piece of high carbon steel for the plate that goes under the bucket. This is what you weld your shanks onto. I hope this helps.

Yes but the teeth are still supported over the lip of the bucket. I ordered the Iowa farms flat bar today not to worried about being abile to hurt it with my little B2920  I did ask why they aren't on their web site and they said allot of people don't even know about them. They have to make them when ordered.

You are correct the teeth do lip over the edge of the bucket, but the manufacturer told me that they have bent the front lips of the bucket, came off and broke the bar that the shanks were welded to. He said this happens when they try to lift a load with one or two teeth. That is why they no longer make them for larger buckets. They don't seem to have that problem with 60" buckets or smaller. Iowa Farms does not make the tooth bars. They order them from a manufacturer. They just sell them. I spent about 50 hours researching tooth bars in the last few weeks. I had some of the same concerns that have been presented here.

The only difference I have noticed between the regular and flat tooth bar is the where the teeth are mounted/welded on the metal cutting edge. On the flat tooth bar, they are welded on the top of the cutting edge and on the regular one they are below the cutting edge. They are both made up pretty much the same other than the position of the teeth. I hope I am explaining this correctly. I like the flat cause you get the best of both, back dragging and digging.
