Can't say what brand it is, but I'm pretty sure it came off of an imported japanese tractor. That tiller is designed to till rice paddies, most likely the tines are not made of hardened steel because they don't need to be. It will still work for normal dirt though.

I've rebuilt 3 grey market tillers to use with 30 hp tractors. I had to start fresh on the pulling draft lugs. I used 1/2" plate to make a complete new pulling system. On two of them I changed out the digging tines to a flange mounted tine that I bought from Kingkutter. It was a lot of work but they were good tillers when I was finished with them. Just exactly what was said about those grey market tines, they were made for rice paddies and USA rocky soil will make 'em spit tines. bjr

I guess if it was me I would start looking for a King Kutter or something in that line and not one that has been used hard and put away dirty and wet.

By the time you get that up and running you will have good money invested.

Just my two cents.

That's a Yanmar that someone has hacked on already. That one would need to have near perfect tines, perfect drive line, and be cheap for me to touch it.

That being said, the Yanmar tillers are great and a tremendous value. I've had one for over 5 years and have put many acres under it. I've hit rocks the size of footballs, tree roots, you name it and it's never done anything to the tines. A couple of my customers who have had their gardens done by a couple other guys, a KK and a Frontier, all prefer the condition my tiller leaves their soil. I know for a fact that the Yanmar out tills the Frontier in sod. He's had me come in and do a couple of jobs for him because of this.

My understanding is that the aftermarket replacement tines are junk, though.
