Pintle hitch?

I live outside of Cambridge City not far from Richmond

We are not too far apart then, we live just south a 40 about 5 miles.

Nice barn by the way, you don't see many of those around here that aren't caving in or seriously neglected.

It is in really good shape for as old as it is. We are trying to keep it up because like you said there just aren't many barns left like that. It has three stories, the third is about 3/4 all the way across. The second floor is in realy good shape and I have driven my 4k lb tractor all over it and park my 5k trailer up there. We use it for family parties.

I'm considering buying a dump trailer for use around my property with my L3400, for hauling dirt, etc.

I missed the part where you were going to be using it around your place on the L3400.

A pintle would be a easy hookup and slop wouldn't matter.

Uncontrolled 3 pt rise can occur in at least a few ways I know, like galaxie mentioned backing up a hill could do it, also going down a hill and applying brakes, but for sure it will happen with a dump trailer, when you tilt it up, before the load slides out, there's quite an upward force on the tongue.
I've got a 5 ton dump trailer and it happens to me.

I've got a 3pt receiver type trailer hitch. I bought mine from Flexpoint, but I had to add break away chain loops and to stop the 3pt rise, I welded a grab hook for 3/8 chain that I attach to the draw bar.

It would not be hard to build, and I would of done it myself, if I knew I'd have to mod it anyway.

I just today modded my 3pt quick hitch, added a receiver directly to the QH, so I wont even need the easy mover.

I see the adapters for using a pintle hitch trailer with a 2 inch receiver on your truck, but what about the other way around? A pintle hitch on the back of the truck and one of the trailers has a ball hitch. Any way for this truck to pull it without changing the hookup permanently?

My ugly dump trailer was built with a pntle hitch to get the most towing capacity. Despite the slack typical of a pintle, they do have merits, and with a little practice, you will get used to the slack. A lot of people who use them on the highway don't like the bump when you decelerate/accelrate. Spring loaded pintle are available and absorb a lot of the shock. I have one out back but since my pintle trailer hasn't been pulled by anything except my JD2555, it is just a dust collector. They make cushions for the ring, but I don't have any experience with them.

I have seen some trailers where the ring is fixed so the hook has to twist. I think some ex military trailers are set up like this.

I occasionally see a large truck with a permanently mounted pintle hook AND a receiver below or beside it.
