Considering purchase of drag (chain) harrow to manage/maintain 2 acres pasture area, level gopher mounds etc. Can anyone tell me what effect heavy duty chain harrow (like that made by Delta) would have on grass (several inches up to more than a foot in height)? Will harrow knock it down or merely glide over it? Thanks.

I would think it would rip out tall grass in big clumps. Why not mow it first?

Well welcome to tbn! Tell us a little about yourself!
:welcome:
As to your question! Most chain harrows have two sides to them, aggressive and the other not so aggressive, I flip mine over to the not so aggressive side and drag pastures several times a summer to break up the piles of manure and mole mounds without damaging the grass!

Never used that type of harrow but from using a regular old style farm harrow I can see where that chain harrow would be completely plugged with grass in about a hundred feet or less depending on conditions.

Cut it or graze it down first. Ken Sweet
