Box Scraper Box scrapper questions

I purchased a 72 inch Bobcat box blade for my CT230...the owners manual for the box blade doesn't contain anything useful for how to actually level it.

Should it be level along the rear of the box blade when it's lifted up off the ground?

Should the box blade be level from the front rails (where the shanks are) to the back rails, or should it be tilted forward (towards the shanks) or back (towards the rear blades)?

I just set ours up by adjusting the top link and the right adjustable lift arm on the tractor. Our HD Bushhog 84" box blade has NO adjustments on it. How I have it adjusted depends on the task at hand.

About your scraper;

When an integral implement needs to be leveled
it is always done from side to side.

Assuming you have the right lower link with the crank it
allows the right lower link to drop farther in the furrow
and allow the toe of the plow to be as deep as possible
in the furrow when the hand crank is used to extend
the right lower link fully.

The hand crank should bring the right lower link all the
way in and equal to the left lower links mounting eye bearing.

The top link also allows you to follow the ground contours easier
as it permits the implement to roll foward and back following the
slope of the ground when using a mower.
When using a ridgid implement you want the top link adjusted tight and maintaining level from front to back on the implement like your box scraper.

You need to be more concerned about the depth adjustment of the ripping teeth as you will tear up a huge amount of material when working the ground.

I believe (I am a new box blade owner too,..) you tilt the BB forward towards the shanks to get more shank bite into the ground. you tilt it back to lessen the shank bite. Tipping it further back will make the blade scrape more.

This is only based on what I have read. I have yet to use my BB yet

Okay thanks. What is a easy way to adjust the top link? It's pretty hard to move it with the weight of the box blade

Remove the top link from the tractor, unwind each threaded end all the way and wire brush the threads to get them clean. Rub the threads with a coating of axle grease, then screw the end pieces back into the center portion, make sure both ends are wound in all the way. Attach one end to the tractor and hold the other end from turning, now turn the center section only to lengthen the entire top link until the holes line up with the implement.
Pin it to the implement.

Lower the implement to the ground and adjust the center section to adjust the attitude of the implement to level. On a small tractor this should turn easily enough but to answer your question sometimes to lengthen the top link it helps to pick up the implement slightly. To shorten the top link and pitch the boxblade forward you can pull the implement while on the ground to make it lean forwards slightly making the top link easier to turn and shorten.

What jenkinsph said so well. As to proper "leveling", as mentioned, it depends on what you want to do as tilting forward will make it dig more and back works better for smoothing/leveling. Level works well for simply moving loose material.

I finally got tired of fooling with climbing on and off the tractor and now use a hydraulic top link.
