Hey guys,

I have an opportunity to get a 51" front mount snowblower for my B8200. Only thing is, I have a manual transmission and no Mid mount PTO. The fellow is telling me the rotation is opposite for front drive snowblowers vs rear mount 3 pt. hitch snowblowers. Is there a reversing gear or something I can use, or should I just keep looking.

Also, is there a way to put a front mount PTO on a manual transmission B8200? I called the dealership, but he didn't sound like he has worked on an older Kubota, and seemed quite unsure over the phone. There is a fellow with several Mid mount PTOs that I would get if I can hook it up.

Thanks,

Diesel

There have been a few members here who have made their own drive systems for front mounted blowers over the years. Unfortunately..... they are one-off custom jobs. I've seen several use chain and sprocket set-ups that drive a shaft off the rear pto to run a front blower. I don't think you will find it very affordable though...... even doing most of the work yourself.

Here is a pic of one of them.......

I was thinking just making something so I could run it off the 3 point hitch PTO. Is the rotation really backwards for a Front Mount unit vs a 3ph unit? I can easily weld on all the connections so it will go on the arms and buy a PTO shaft, I'm just worried about the directions of rotation. Thanks

EDIT: actually, judging by the picture posted above, it would appear that a CW input would yield a CCW output, confirming they spin different directions? My question is now, is there a way to swap the gearboxes easily enough?

How is the rotation reversed? It looks like a gear box to run a front mount blower on the front w/out a mid PTO. Which if the top shaft is turning clock wise so will the bottom shaft. Now if you were to put the front blower on the back, then yes rotation would be wrong with that set up.

Are you planning a front mount or a 3 pt mount.

The issue the photo posted looks like it gets around the rear PTO is probably a standard 540. Most mid PTO powered attachments are 2000 RPM's.

Depends how you look at it & how you think about it, also what you think "reversed" means.
Many "front mount" blowers are in fact THE SAME rear mount blowers PLUS a drop down gear box, under tractor frame and drive shaft to put them up front.

Stand behind your tractor, look at the PTO, do some wrist action in the direction of rotation.
Turn around with your back to the back of the tractor, reverse that wrist motion to represent the direction of rotation as input to an implement.
THAT is what the snow blower will need to receive when it is at the front - and that is exactly what a drop down gear box will provide.

IOW, if you delete the drop down gear box you delete the need for "reversal".
Actually the whole "reversal" thing is about which way you faced and there only APPEARS to be a need for "reversal" because when the blower is put on the front you view the blower and the PTO shaft from the SAME direction.

Not smoke and mirrors, just mirrors.

For a double check look up the particular blower on the manufacturer's web site, see if they offer a rear to front adapter or conversion kit of some sort, i.e. the drop down gear box, under tractor frame and drive shaft.

For a TRIPLE check; If the auger looks like this ////|\\\\ then it is almost certainly a front or rear (convertible) blower.

OTOH, if it looks like this \\\|/// then I might be willing to retract most of the above (-:

I'm either missunderstanding you or I think you may be incorrect, but I can't seem to follow your post. The drop down boxes do reverse the rotation. If you have a PTO that spins clockwise when facing the rear of the tractor. Now face the input of the now blower, this becomes counter clockwise input as facing the blower from the attachment side. If you use a chain assembly as shown above both shafts would be spinning the same direction. Now spin the blower around and put it on the front. You would have clockwise input, with a box that does not reverse rotation. I also know that on Ag tractors with front PTO's. If you face them both spin the "same" direction. Now from sitting in the seat facing the same direction, one is spinning one direction, the other is spinning the opposite.

This link explains it better.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just buy a mid-pto adaptor?

Lorenz Front Mount Kits

It explains it DIFFERENTLY (-:

I was not remembering Lorenz as one of the manufacturers of front/rear kits when I posted.

The POINT is that it is the SAME BLOWER that turns the SAME WAY.

To the O/P's original question; YES, it is very likely to just go on the back with no problems.
You are VERY LIKELY to find holes for 3pt lift pins at a very convenient location.
If you can get a parts book it will be obvious where the top link connect to as well, you might need a bracket.

The reversal illusion is just that; because the blower has been rotated 180 degrees about a vertical axis it APPEARS that the shaft needs to be REVERSED.
This is the SAME illusion you get when doing the wrist motion when facing forwards, then turning around to face away from the tractor.

Again, the SAME BLOWER turns the SAME WAY, whether it is on the front or on the rear, .........whether you believe in the term "reversal" or not.

Gee, my truck's driver side tires turn counter clockwise when it is going forwards.
The passenger side tires......

The Lorenz front mount kit is the way to do this quickly and with no fuss and muss for sure.
