Does anyone own a Howse rotary cutter mower model 8100C or 8102C? ("2" is dual wheel and "C" just means chains).

My dealer says his book shows that it is a dual blade/3 gearbox and costs $4000+. I had him double check it. $4K seem like a bit much for a single gearbox but three may justify the price.

The Howse website shows the parts diagram to be a single blade/single gearbox. Used ones on the Internet also are single. Could the new ones have a design change? :confused2:

The Howse website doesn't mention a dual blade set-up and the generic photo in their PDF file is of a single.

Other cutters under consideration:
Woods MDS96 $6820
Bush Hog 3008 $5138
Woods DS96 $4200
Land Pride RCR25
Land Pride RCR35 $6K+

Any knowledge or recommendation regarding the Howse or any other 8', single deck, 3PH cutter?

The rotary cutter will be run on a Kubota M7040 (70HP), Category 2.

3 gear boxes, 2 blade. sounds more like a double bush hog. were one or both have hydraulic tilts, to lift one or both up into the air. or they might refer to it as a bat wing style bush hog.

one gear box between pto on tractor and central gear box. then one gear box on top of each deck for the blades.

=========
i am going to assume gear boxes are rated at least what your tractor can produce if not more, so you are not damaging the gear box on the bush hog? or some sort of break away pin if ya hit something hard, or slip clutch or something of the like?

i have seen different blades under bush hogs, one large single blade, and then a single bar that spins, and then 2 smaller cutting bars that spin off of the single middle bar. so if ya hit a stump or like. you do not damage the cutting blades as bad. exception of running dead center onto a stump or rock or like.

metal thickness of the deck, would be a concern. light duty, medium duty, heavy duty notations.

chains across front to help keep stuff from plowing back at you?

is the deck made in such a way, rain water will not stand on the deck and eventally cause rust spots later down in the years? or are there small holes in different spots to let water drain to the underside of the deck?

would it be easy to use say an air compressor to blow any muck off the top of the deck? referring to the cross bracing on top of the deck mostly.

are geese zerks easy to get to?

is the back gauge wheel easy to adjust? some times 2 gauge wheels on back. most of those are pull behind like trailer bush hogs but not always.

if single back gauge wheel. will the entire wheel rotate 360. and hold up from being pounded into dirt holes or up against a tree without bending? ((ya get into them tall weeds, and backing up, it is hard telling what you might hit))

do you have enough front ballast. so when ya back over a ridge / hill. your front tires do not come off the ground? those bigger bush hogs. really do extend that weight out the back of the tractor. a FEL can be almost a requirement at times.

some times 3pt hitch lifting arms. just don't have the guts. or the frame / body of the bush hogs have some flex in them. so when ya lift them all the way up. they don't raise as high as you would want them to. is there a way to attach a couple chains or like to rear of bush hog. to top center link area. and tighten chain up for traveling distances?

some bush hogs instead of chains have some pieces of metal brackets that run from top center link area to different spots towards back of bush hog. sometimes they are bolted on. while others are welded on and into place. if bolted on. are the nuts in spots were you can easily check tightness? (i have seen them come loose) and some do not have a spot were either nut fits into a grove or bolt head fits into the grove on bottom side of deck. to make it easier to tighten without having second person hold a wrench.

UPDATE:

The Howse 8' (8100 and 8102) has a single gearbox. That makes the deck 8' by 8' or thereabouts. Too big for my uses.

The Land Pride RCR3596 was quoted to me at over $7000 plus tax.

The Land Pride RCR2596 was chosen for about the same price as the Howse. It is a single deck, dual blade, with two rear wheels.

The Howse 808C is a twin spindle with a 150hp - 21 spline center and two cheeta side boxes

you have to look @the parts part of their site to see it

see my post "twin spindle 8' shredders who loves em - wish I could find my pics

sorry what you were quoted was not one of em cuz they are hecka nice. $2650 is what I paid last July in gregg county

I pull mine with a deere 4610 - 33hp@ pto
Just took it off last night - an 8' at 3mph is 2+ acre/hour bro- it eats 3+ pines without even changing tune:D

try one you'll like it - they make fixed-deck-multi-spindles all the way to 15' - a cheap mans wing:laughing: I keep a 10' twin blade on my 3140 - 4 acres in one beer!

I even think for the SUBs there is a market for a 6' TWIN SPINDLE shredder that could be run by 25 PTO TRACTOR:p that could eat 2.5" stuff all day without straining the unit - now I am talking about a deere unit and an AMERICAN MADE shredder.

said it before for a twin spindle you only need 4.2 HP/ft - or call it 4.5

Bet ya!!!
