Box Scraper Want to uproot scrub trees and vines

I've been thinking (dangerous I know). How about taking some 3"X5"X.25" angle I have on hand and cutting some teeth into it similar to a ratchet rake, mount that on my FEL bucket then reach up high and pull down as I back away. Only problem is I still might have the breaking branch problem. At least backing away, maybe I could keep an eye on things and stop if it looks like I'm running into a problem.

I have a Bush Hog (the actual brand) and I don't think I could force it into some of the areas I have. Too thick a tangle and too thick vines to cut. Like I said some are 4" or more thick.

I've never dealt with a 4 inch vine. Sounds like a job for a grapple and strong loader or perhaps a chainsaw and Roundup.

Don't do it. The physics are exactly the same as using a grapple like I used to do. You'll just pull stuff out of the tree tops that will be under tension until it or a whole branch lets go and then it will shoot right at you.

Now that you bring it up I realize you are right; I can see where even backing up would possibly cause that to happen. Guess I'm back to breaking my back doing it manually.

I have used Black & Decker alligator loppers, my Xpower 1500, and chokers to clear out the larger stuff 2-8 inches then finish with my bush hog. THe loppers really do a good job of clearing a walking path. You can cut a twig or a 6 inch samplings. They do jam sometimes but I have found a pretty good to clean them.
Not the best system but the loppers were only 90.00 and everytning else I already had

For vines and small trees I use a woods rake just back into drop and pull forward

I've used an old car wheel with no tire on it to good success. A friend had a little trouble with the wheel falling over and cured the problem with welding three together. This was lighter and easier to handle than a log.

Darn straight. I'd hate to be out in 110 degree Texas heat wrestling with a 3-foot 24" log all day....

But you're right. It's incredible how hard it is to pull out even a small tree straight from the tractor. The wheel trick does it.

For all the safety police (and for my own peace of mind) I bought some horse panel from TSC, cut a piece to fit the ROP and used hose clamps to fasten it to the back of the ROP. The panel I'm referring to is made from 1/4" rod welded in a 2"X4" pattern. This should stop the chain from slapping me in the back of the head in case of a failure under load.

Careful, that could backfire. If any part of the chain isn't caught by the panel, it will whip around the edge and slice through you like warm butter. I always try to keep the working length as short as possible.
