Hi, I am interested if anyone has heard of Igland winches, from Norway. I have spoken to a dealer in NY who's selling them. The Igland 3001 is sized for the "hobby forester" and for my Kubota B2910. They are being sold for $2,350, which is at least a thousand less than other brands' winches. It could be that this one, 350 lbs and able to pull 6000 lbs, is smaller than the others? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I guess I am a hobby logger too. I make a little money but not near enough to live on.
I have seen Iglands but never used one. I would think it would be good.
I have a small Farmi that they don't make anymore and love it. It weighs 370 lbs and pulls 6400 lbs. This would be very close to what you are looking at. It is a good match for my 30 hp tractor which weighs 5000 lbs with loader, winch, chains, grapple, and loaded tires.
Here is some pics of mine at work. The Igland sould do the same.

That last photo is a very interesting shot - looks like a double angle pull? Nice way to pull straight off your winch regardless of the way the tree lies.

I've got a Farmi (13,000 lb line pull) that I run off a 30 hp (pto) Kubota L3710. I'm a fan of the "if it fits, put it on the tractor school of buying attachments." I try to buy a larger size in case I go with a larger tractor later. Do I expect the Kubota to be able to pull 13,000 lbs? Nope. I don't try to.

They look like they'd be fun to try. Did yous ever use one before you bought?

I think that Igland and Norse are made by the same company. I have a Norse 450 and I am very happy with the quality of mine. It seems as though when I bought mine that the European version was the Igland and the US version was the Norse. The models were almost identical. I can assure you that you will never regret getting one.

Here is a couple views of mine from this spring.

Bitternut is correct. Igland and Norse are made side-by-side, with only paint and decals to differentiate. I have an Igland 4501, same as Norse 450.

It's a great winch, and I paid $2900 for it new, which is a heck of a deal for a 10.5k lb winch.

Where is a good (lowest cost) place to buy one? I suppose I would have it shipped, as I live in MN.

I bought mine from Labonville in New Hampshire (Welcome to Labonville.com - Logging Supplies and Safety Apparel | Made in USA Products). I looked at all the name brand winches and could not get any where near the price I got from Labonville. Shipping was very reasonable to WNY but that was 4 or 5 years ago and I know it is more now. Maybe they still have the best prices. Don't cost anything to ask.
I hope you don't mind me jumping in 3 years later, but I have some questions. Is the brake a ratchet and pawl system? Can you leave it off while pulling to avoid wear and that clinking sound? Can you drop the load to ground and let the cable play out from the driver's seat, or do you have to get off? And, finally, do you still love yours after a few more years of use? I would get the 450 also if I buy if for my tractor, which is a Mahindra 5035 HST. My other choice is a used Tajfun 450, though I am not sure it is still available.
