Anyone Know Anything About This Old Auger?

I haven't seen this one in person, but I would back the tractor up to it and see if it will fit. Since the 2/8/9N set the standards for cat1, you may find it fits pretty easy to your rig.

I am thinking that the 2/8/9N Ford had a different pto spline count (6 versus 8?), so you may need an adapter (easy to get). I have an F7, which the current F8 is slightly different (lots of guards on the shaft, different pinion shaft). They used grease instead of oil in the F7 & 8. No idea on the earlier models.

On the PTO drive shaft, make sure it still telescopes in and out. If it doesn't, look at the cost for a new one before investing much time into it (though this unit is likely worth replacing it). You can get a new splined yoke end (take off the U joint and it replaces one 'U' end).

bullbreaker, That is a lot of money for an auger that old. If we could sell ours for 2/3s that price we could just buy a new one that is made for 3-point hitches.

I agree I just posted that so you could see mdl #/pics, because originally there seemed to be some dought over who made phd.
Looking forward to what Danuser will tell you.Just like I found info interesting about these units from others replys to this thread.

It looks like it was connected to the lift arms, and the top link like a normal post hole digger, so, I would run a 3/4 rod through the bottom two pin holes of the lift arm and the frame, then connect the top link.

Hang the digger from a tree and back the tractor up to it to check for fit.

mojoinco, we did try hooking it up and couldn't figure out where it should have attached. The pto shaft does slide in and out so that is fine.

J J, We tried that and it makes the whole thing sit to far from the tractor and the toplink would need to be twice as long as it is. The ends of the auger arms need to attach down near the axel for the toplink to reach but I am not sure just where they attach or how you lift it once it is attached there.

I got an email from Glenn Danuser today.
"It is a Danuser Digger. The long arms were for hooking it up to the tractor frame and 3 pt for a certain model tractor. The 3 pt hitch was not standard back in those days so we sold certain kits to fit certain tractors. There is no way to determine what tractor this hitch would work on. We do offer 2 conversion kits to get this digger to work on a category I or II tractor. If you provide me with a mailing address, I will send you an Owner's Manual (for the Model F8) and a letter explaining the conversion kits available for your digger. Once both conversion kits are made, the F8 manual will work 100% with what you have."

We will see what is involved in the conversion kits they have. If we can make it work that would be great.

Hope end results are cost effective to you.Might want to look inside your gearbox and check condition before any other decisions ?
Don't think this will be the case:but I've seen people tear their TSC/etc phd gearboxes up because they came shipped dry and never put correct oil in them,just a thought.

I have one just like it. I use it on my '48 Ford. Works great.

Update. We got the Owner's Manual (for the Model F8) and the letter explaining the conversion kits and it looks like it would work well but the nearest place to buy it is 150+ miles away and shipping, well... We ended up getting a used (but never used to dig a hole) massey ferguson post hole digger with a 12" auger that should work well for us and we still have this old one if we want to do something with it in the future.

i have a old one like that and need some u-joint for it any one know where i can find them. been looking for some time
