I got the bedder over a month ago and it has been too wet to use it. So I rushed home Wed night after work and hilled up the potatoes before the storms hit.
I had not used it before so there was some trial and error adjustments but it took me about an hour to do 5 100 foot rows then 4 50 foot rows. That would have taken the better half of a Saturday morning with a hoe and rake.
What a time saver!

I have wanted to get a bedder for some time now... looks like I'll be raking and hoe'n the garden. Potatoes were just planted last week but already about 6" high! I am amazed at how fast those things grow. Right now its too wet to get in to cover 'em up. Mother nature needs a prozac as we need one good rain every once and a while and not these gulley washers that come all at once.

I'd love to see pics of your bedder on the tractor over a row next time!

Best Regards

Well Mr B, I'll be happy to take some pics over a row but it might be a couple of days as I'm covered up with work after the storms we had here last week(see pic below).

Mr K, I'll get you some pics too. As to what to elaborate on? I plan on using the hiller on my corn and okra also. Hopefully it will help them be more wind resistant this year.

I'm considering the same purchase of a bedder / hiller -- I could build one myself and save a few bucks, but at what cost of my time time / energy -- I'm leaning more toward spending the money as the need for the tool gets closer......

I'm also still new to the whole tractor gardening thing, but from what I have learned, you should not need to mess with corn once it's planted -- just keep it weeded.

PhoneFarmer,
Nice pics, could you post some of the hillier itself please. What brand?
Noticed your pict of the bucket truck, and tying that to your name, you must work for the phone company? Did the pole lean over due to wet ground? Can see lots of locating marks, but cant tell from pics what happened. I worked for the local electric company as a phone-man for 37yrs, and I have seen whole stretches of poles lean due to water and wind. it's a bear to get them back up....

Finally got to catch up in the garden today.
Here is a pic of the hiller over a row as requested.
Dapper, the pole in the pic broke right at ground level due to wind I'm sure.
No other poles on the road where damaged and there are some pretty good size trees right across the road that were untouched. Weather is amazing!!
