I saw a bush hog on the side of the road ,it was a 5' 305 Bush Hog brand that was rusty ,but didn't seem to be beat to bad. Called the guy up and he wants $750 firm . Looks to be really rugged and the blades looked to be hardly used. Would this be a deal or not ?I only have a 3240 kubota with around 25 or 26 at the pto so I didn't know if I've got what it takes to run it . anyone have one or used this one before?

Not sure if price is good for Hog as a picture is worth a thousand words. But you are kidding right about your 3240 running it right? Cause that would not be a issue at all for your Grand L, it would run it like a breeze.

The model 305 Bush Hog mower is a heavy duty cutter. MUch more so than ANYTHING you can normally buy in that price range. I'd be all over that before it had a chance to get away.

Probabally not a bad buy. But definatally no steal. I just picked up a 306 (same thing but 6') for $200. I consider that a steal. It was rusty and had a tear in the deck. But when I get done repairing/repainting and making it like new again, I am hoping to get ~$800 or a tad better out of it.

And age makes a difference as well. I think they made the 305/306 for almost 30 years. They started in the late 70's or early 80's and made them up until a few years ago. If your's is a newer one, definatally not a bad buy. If you price any HD bushhogs today, you are looking at $2500+ for one built that rugged.

Heres a link with some specs to give you an Idea

I doubt you will hurt it any with your tractor:confused2:

Just to add a little more info,

To give you an Idea, spec wise, it is similar to the KK heavyduty. And at (Temporarily blocked due to reports of company closure), they list a 60" $1830.

And for comparison, a typical, standard duty 5'er like most of us run usualy weigh in under 600lbs, and only have 11 or 12 gauge decks.

KK has yet to build anything "similar" to a BH 305.

KK has yet to build anything "similar" to a BH 305.

Spec wise, it is VERY similar. 3/16 (.187) deck for the KK, 7 ga for the 305.

Both weigh within a few lbs of each other, heavy sides, beefy gearbox, etc.

I was just pointing out the KK for a reference. Not saying it is as good. But to just give an Idea that these are expensive units.

All too many times, people look and a std duty to get a price and use that as a comparison when shopping used. So If he were to look and see that he could get a BRAND new 5' cutter for about the price of the used one he is looking at........:confused2:

That Is all I was pointing out. That there are standard duty peices of equip, and then there are HEAVY duty. and Heavy duty costs$$$$

Back to the original question....The Bush Hog 305 has the "specs", and it has a proven track record as a commercial grade mower. If it were a 5' BH Squeeler, I'd walk away on that price. The thing is, it's NOT a Squeeler, nor is it a King Kutter, or any other economy level mower. Relative to what you'd have to pay to get a new mower of the same grade as the BH305, I'll stick with my opinion. I'd jump on it at that price.

I've got a Bush Hog 406. Part mower, part army tank...! It'll make you go find the suitcase weights though....

Hey, thanks for all the good advice, I'm going for it. Money's tight right now but by the sound of what your saying for the price it's not bad.

I just have to ask though.....

What makes the 305/306 better than a KK HD.

Dont get me wrong, I'd opt for the BH brand everytime, but looking at the pics and specs, they look pretty similar. As far as deck and construction, the KK actually appears a bit better IMO. It has I-beam siderails vs the BH's 1/4" plate. The KK is 3/16 (.1875") steel deck vs the BH's 7ga (.179") deck. And just something about the 3PH looks a tad stouter as well.

The ONLY way I see the BH being better (and this is probabally what you are talking about) is the gearbox and PTO. The 305 has a 80 HP gearbox vs the KK's 60HP box. And the 306 has a 90HP box vs the KK 6'ers 60HP or optionaal 80HP box.

I am not trying to persuade or sell anyone on the KK HD, or trying to start an argument, just pointing out that there is a HUGE difference in just the standard KK (which is nothing spectacuar), and the HD KK. That is why I compared it to the HD, which looks like a very nice peice in its own rights. And a price to boot.:confused2:
