Backhoe What Backhoe is best for my tractor?

The BH92 is I believe the largest that would go on your M series. It's a very nice BH as I have seen one attached to an L4400 and am planning to get one for my MX5100. I believe I got the specs via the pamphlet at the dealer. You can try this:

Products: BH92 Kubota Canada Ltd.

I need to buy a backhoe for my tractor and can't find any information at the Kubota website. The backhoe section for M series tractors is under construction. I have a M7040 tractor with 4WD and would like to buy a backhoe for it. Does anyone know which model is recommended for this tractor? Is there a Kubota backhoe made for this tractor model or is another brand better? I will be using it to clean up tree debris and stumps left over from hurricane Katrina. Thank you for your help.

If it's possible to put aside some of the personal sniping for a moment to actually help you, here's some information that might be useful with your backhoe question. There is a factory backhoe for the Mxx40 series tractors that comes up in the "Build my Kubota" section on the website. It doesn't give you the model number, but it does quote out the MSRP... something north of $15K, depending on options. The previous Kubota model for that size tractor was an M4011. Maybe that's still the right one, or - considering the "under construction" status of the website pages - maybe there's a new one coming out - I don't know.

That's a pretty steep price for a backhoe attachment. Unless there is some pressing reason for buying a new one, I would have to seriously consider buying a used full-sized TLB or mini-excavator, as one poster suggested. You can get a pretty good piece of used equipment for $15k and not tie up your tractor with digging duty.

I don't know if the non-Kubota backhoe attachments are similar in price, but regardless of brand, an 11 ft, new backhoe is not going to be cheap. You probably could also put a smaller backhoe on an M7040 (assuming one of the non-OEM brands makes a subframe that would fit a smaller hoe to it), but that's a pretty big tractor to be using with a small hoe, and you'd probably get tired of jockeying it around repositioning the hoe.

Also, you are really into the price range where an L45 or M59 is possible. If the majority of your work is going to be this kind of clean-up work, you should look into one of those dedicated TLB's.

Just an owner's comment about Kubota backhoes. My backhoe is quite well made and has given excellent service for more than 8 years. Don't know how many are actually sold, but it has to number in the thousands, and I expect very few of them have given their owners trouble, in spite of what a few people say on the internet. Nonetheless, I'm thinking in your situation, your money would be better spent on another digger.

Just one opinion. Good luck, whichever way you decide to go.

If the Kubota hoe is really 15k, I would also be looking for a used full size backhoe or excavator. It would perform much better than the kubota hoe hanging off the back of your M, and it wouldn't tie your tractor up when you could be using it for other things.

I did a quick Google of the Woods BH90 and found a newsgroup quote of $8300, nearly half of the speculation's value being made here. I had a BH6000 for years and it was a great unit. Well built and very reliable. Based on that, I would not hesitate, in your case, to make an inquiy on the Woods.

I recommend that you look into a Woods BH90-X Ground Breaker as your tractor will more than handle it and if Woods list a 4-point subframe for your M7040 (see their website and find subframe listings or just ask Rosseel's to verify) then contact Rosseel's Farm and Garden Supply in Chesterfield, MI. for a quote. 1-888) 255-8198 or see their website or their ebay site. Best price bar none for Woods products and you can get in in orange although mine is blue. You will also need the subframe and hose kit and I highly recommend the hydraulic thumb kit. I am in California and they preformed flawlessly from the initial order to the final on time ship date as per our written agreement. Bought my BH90-X from them two years ago and am fully satisfied.

No question Woods makes an excellent backhoe that is often an equal or better value vs the comparable Kubota product. But the BH90 is a 9 foot hoe; the Kubota site specs the M7040 for an 11 footer... so that $8300 price is not straight up comparable. The Woods BH1050 would be more directly equivalent, and, pardon me for "speculating" :), but since lightly used BH1050's seem to go for $9-10k, one might think a new one goes for more than that. Of course, a fella could put the smaller hoe on the larger tractor to save money, assuming there is a subframe for it or locate a good used BH1050.

I wouldn't. I wouldn't go smaller and I wouldn't go used where a subframe was involved, either. I speculate I also wouldn't drop an extra $5k to have an excavator, either. 1st off, I don't have indoor storage for it. Anyway, this man came to us asking for advice on a hoe, not on his ability to select equipment. He already has a 70hp Kubota. I think he knows what he wants.

Not to offend anyone but we should really answer the question. I am also not claiming to not be part of the huimerous sidetrack, which, in itself, is great reading. Now no more defiblerator talk.

No offense taken. Let me sheepishly admit I lost sight of fact Gary already has the 7040. My bad. Your first post gave good recommendations about BH models to consider.

Well, I have no idea of the price, but the Wallenstein Ranchho Extendible GX920XT can dig to 11' 4", almost 4000lbs breakout on the bucket and 3100/2200 on the dipper, respectively! They even make a subframe for the M7040. I'd say thats the Cat's Pajamas.:D:D:D
