I went to an auction today. I think it was the first time I ever left an auction thinking things went cheap. Usually I leave an auction thinking how much people overbid on things. The real estate and miscellaneous items all seemed to go very low.

I bought the two items pictured. I got the Ford 309 planter for $150.00. I saw one sell at an auction two month ago for over $1000.00. I bought this one just to polish up a bit and sell for hopefully a nice profit.

I got the two bottom Ford 101 plow for $220.00. It has the trip type plows which makes it a desirable plow. I don't think it was as good a buy as the planter but a bargin none the less. The tail wheel was broken off so it needs a bit of repair, but assuming I can find a replacement, it should be an easy fix.

I'm not a farmer by any means and I have a question that you might answer. What is the function of that missing tail wheel on the plow? Is it to keep things aligned in the furrow?

Ken: Where would be a good place to find that missing tail wheel, or is it something that is all that important in use?

For a long time you could get those new, and after market. My source no longer has them available. You could buy that plow, when ordering a new one with or without the rolling tail wheel. The standard design had a long landslide on the rear bottom. Try Ford/NH, A & I and Tisco for starters. These devices keep the plow side draft from pulling the front of tractor to the right when plowing. Ken Sweet
