Gun Rack???
I know this sounds like a crazy question, but has anyone rigged up a gun rack attached to the ROPS?

I am having a hard time controlling snakes near a lake where I have some property, and need to keep a shotgun on the tractor if possible so that I can kill the devils when I am cutting brush. I am thinking about getting a 4-wheeler gun rack mount or something similar, and attaching it to the ROPS with u-bolts or something.
Has anyone done such a thing or am i just a certified nut? If you have done so, pics would be nice!!

Re: Gun Rack???
You'll have to search a bit (using the TBN search function...try "rifle", "shotgun" or "gun rack" as queries), but there are several folks who have done just that.
I can't recall the thread, but I saw a picture this morning (on TBN) of just what you're looking for...Roy Jackson

Re: Gun Rack???
Glad you posed the thread, if your nutty then so am I. I strap my pistol on my belt when I go to the back part of the property on my tractor.
I have a swampy area near the back and there is more than one water mocasin located back there.
Not a big fan of snakes but will let most of them slither away unless it is a mocasin or a rattlesnake.

Re: Gun Rack???
We have a gun rack mounted on the front of one of our 4 wheelers and we keep a short-barreled, lever-action Rossi rifle that does not extend beyond the width of the 4 wheeler. We put a Kolpin gun boot on our golf cart - which my wife uses allot (holds the same Rossi lever-action 38 special rifle)....and I keep a Rossi revolver in my tractor's fender tool-box with 38 specials.
Rossi makes reasonable quality, stainless, low-priced guns that suit this purpose for me....and I dont worry about needing to clean 'em or dings from riding around. My wife can aim and shoot a rifle better than a handgun.....and there is no recoil with a 38 special rifle (or 357 loads for that matter).
Sometimes I will wear a holster and handgun...but that is too uncomfortable when working for me. When we are done for the day.....the guns go into a safe....ready for the next time.
OH....and that JD tool box may as well hold my pistol....'cause it isn't much good for tools.

Like Roy, I have a bunch of guns, but I usually drop a .38 in my pocket. I have S&W 638 with a shrouded hammer and Crimson Trace laser grips. It is light weight and you really can't tell it is there. I have a CCW Permit, but in Missouri, you can carry concealed in a vehicle without any type of permit. Always check your state statutes as they often apply even on your own property outside your domicile.

If this picture does not make you want to strap some heavy artillery to your tractor nothing will !!
I was sent this picture by a friend of mine and told this snake was killed locally. It was spotted and killed trying to escaping the recent flooding.

Re: Gun Rack???
It was coming out of the Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana probably just south of Baton Rouge. If you have ever watched the history channel program "Swamp People" (about alligator hunters) that is the general area. It is the largest swamp in the United States. They opened both the spillways that protect Baton Rouge and New Orleans this year from the Mississippi river flooding. First time in 40 years that they have been both open. The morganza spillway which protects Baton Rouge floods farm land and raises the water level in the Basin. The story is they spotted that bad boy leaving the area.
Which makes sense to me we have had all sorts of critters showing up in urban areas since they opened the spillway 2 weeks ago.
I know they grow 'em big in Texas but that is the biggest I have ever seen around here. I showed the picture to my Dad and his reaction was
"that will make a nice pair of boots !!"
