Tractor
Early 1949 Ford 8N
TSC boom pole, $120, Local Co-op boom pole, $270
They look exactly the same, same rating (500 lbs).
So why the price difference?
Are they the same, or just look the same.
Is the cheaper one from TSC any good?
This would be for an 8N tractor.

Thanks.

Should do the same work, but check the wall thickness, and the welds. If you weld on a 2 in square receiver, you can make the boom pole more versatile, by plugging in different end pieces. like hook, D ring, 2 in ball, etc. .

In this picture, I have my tree pruner plugged in to the receiver.

I use mine all the time to move things. I lifted an old Koenig truck box (1054 lbs) at one end and pulled it some distance to load on a trailer. Which means I had lifted at least 500lbs not counting the dragging resistance. It held up well. I was more concerned about snapping the chain and having it take my face off.

JJ. cool deal on the pruner! I like my pole, bought it years ago at TSC...It is plenty stout for my uses, even car engines.Jy.

I used mine to lift the new (used) loader for my JD950 out of the pickup. I put the bucket on, picked up the whole thing and moved it back to the garage where the tools are. Saved a whole lot of grunt work. In my book it paid for itself on the 1st job.

Now I just have to find a good used box blade.

I bought mine from TSC about 2 years ago and it's still going strong. I've moved numerous items including a large refrigerator and most recently a very heavy 8 ft landscape rake with it. (see pic attached)

I picked up one at an auction about 7 or 8 years ago. Handiest dang thing I ever owned! It'll do things (at times) that even a front end loader isn't well suited for. Mine has that 500lb duty rating, but while loading a 14' wheel disc onto a trailer a couple summers past, I managed to bring the front end of my JD2640 off the ground because of weight hanging on the boom pole. (That included eight 100lb suitcase weights on the front of the tractor) Who knows exactly how much weight I had hanging on that 500lb pole, but I'd venture a guess it in the thousands of lbs.....

NO, I wouldn't recommend lifting that sort of weight with one...... ;)

I have the TSC boom pole and can tell you that I have exceeded the 500 pound rating with no problems at all. I lifted a 700 pound tiller out of a trailer and it didn't seem to be under any excessive strain.
