I see many posts about boom poles and how handy they are. However, I can't help but think that a boom pole can do nothing a FEL can't do.

Please give me your experiences of examples where a boom pole can come in handy even though you have a FEL. Sounds like I need an excuse to buy a BP doesn't it??? :licking:

A boom pole is for the people that dont have a fel. The only advantage I can think of would be a little more reach.

Pretty much, I have a boom pole that hasn't been moved in years. I used it with my Ford NAA, but haven't found a use for it since I got tractors with a FEL. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Boom pole is simply for the people who do not have fel like your's truly :(. The only advantage to it is will give me a crick in the neck at no cost to me.:D Normally 3 points gives you a better lift capacity that is negated by the distance the boom is hanging at the back. It is the most utilitarian implement to lift something off the ground and put it somewhere else. Mine costed me less than $20 to build and I will continue using it even with fel. you can get to tighter spots with the boom than fel as well.

I agree it most of been a life saver back in the day when most tractors had no loader. Loaders are so useful almost all utility tractors are sold with them now.

I haven't needed one since I do have a loader, but I still want one. just missed out on one on CL for 50. I'll look for a cheap one or maybe make one.

I can't use the reach excuse to get a 3pt boom :D
take a look...

Here in Texas we sometimes use ours for pond fishing!
Casting takes some practice.
Our only concern is the 500lb weight limit!

I expect Floridians catch gators?
Four wheel drive might come in handy.

With a boom pole you can skid a 40ft log out while driving the tractor in forward. Without a boom pole, you can skid a log by the FEL but you'll have to drive it in reverse. If you're doing this while navigating some hilly or uneven terrain, it could get quite interesting!

Not arguing but can't you skid a log with the draw bar?

I think they like to lift the front end of the log so it skids/ slides rather than digging in as you drag it. (haven't tried it myself)
