I had to pull my chipper head apart on my 9 inch Fitchburg chipper over the last few days. It developed a noise that I could not figure out. The noise ended up being not only a bad shaft bearing but a worn cutter shaft. Does anyone have one of these monsters kicking around in the New England area that is rusting away? I could weld up the shaft and have it re-machined but I'm looking for an easy quick fix if possible. TIA, Jim
I did the inevitable and saved the chipper head. I welded the shaft up, machined it back down to specs and installed two new bearings. She's purring again nicely and very quiet now compared to what it sounded like before.
