The pickup drive chain on this old 275 square baler jumped the sprocket when I drove it into an armadillo hole, and then it stripped some of the teeth off of the sprocket. The chain was very loose to begin with, and now it seems even longer. Is replacing the sprocket a big deal? What about the chain? Should it
be shortened a link? Thanks for the help.

Replace the chain, while the sprocket is done. Chain is cheap insurance for getting hay up when the sun is shining. A busted baler chain when rain is coming is no economy.

I'm gonna buy a couple of boxes of chain for my baler. This Spring when everybody was baling and busting chain, the local dealer stock was cleaned out. We had to drive quite a distance for chain on a buddy's baler. That was two hours, we could have been baling instead of riding.

Do you have the cast gear with the long teeth or the steel one that has double the teeth? Depending on which one you have the chain you use differs.
