Hi All

Was wondering what the better method to paint a loader bucket would be. Would really rather not have to have it sandblasted, its a JD so green would be the colour...anyone have suggestions on brand of paint, or primer paint combo?

Regards
Steve

Pressure wash it. Apply a rust converter (not a rust inhibitor) and use an industrial enamel. I am pretty sure Sherwin Williams has the paint colors on file.

Use it a lot so it gets shiny. About 120 yds of road base would polish it nicely. A well used bucket is a beautiful thing. It doesn't need paint.

My formula with great results:
Pressure wash with Simple Green
2 Coats Rustoleum Paint Over Rust Primer
2 Coats Valspar Tractor Enamel
All paint is applied with a small foam roller.

This method is super cheap (<$20) and has held up AWESOME.

go to your auto parts store and buy some ospho, its what auto body shops use for rust it turns rust into an innert metal that will not rust, you can buy it in qts or gal size its about 10.00 a qt or 20.00 a gal, pressure wash your bucket, then take a sander and hit it with that, then spray the ospho on and let it sit for a day then do it again, the rusty areas will turn white then black, you can apply paint then but I usually light sand again then wash with water dry then paint, after doing that it will not rust for many years

I used the old fashioned, "ungreen", oil based rustoleum. It wasn't a perfect match, but it has held up very well. The original paint was still decent, so I simply brushed over it.
