1600 diesel ford
Hey anyone who'd care to! Please help me figure out how I'd determine how large of a bucket I can handle with my Ford 1600 with what I assume to be the original equipment FEL #F770. How do you figure out how big is too big before your buy?
THe two buckets that came with the thing are not the originals, that I know. But the previous owner was kind of clueless. I'm finding that the buckets I have are a wee bit too small for my purposes, primarily moving manure. I'll be doing some excavating with the machine eventually, but, for now, manure is my game. It's just that a good size wheelbarrow about fills this bucket to overflow. The second bucket is even smaller. Are these things classed by size or description or do you have to hunt for the dimensions some where?
Thanks.

Hey!
What size are they? I'm in the same situation. It was pretty embarressing after bragging to my wife how much work I would get done with the tractor only to have a wheelbarrow do the same job. I can't offer any insight as to what size bucket will reach the weight limit of your FEL but I would personally look for something a little wider than your tractor. Makes it handy for getting up next to the fence or corral and still have some wiggle room. Manure is light so you should be able to go to a bigger bucket than you would want for wet dirt or rock.

According to tractordata.com that tractor is about 20 horsepower. I had a TC21D and the dealer sold me on a 60". That worked out ok for snow but moving dirt it was way too big. I had to be really careful not to overfill or the back wheels came off the ground. Manure because it is wet will be heavier than black dirt.

I kept my TC21D for about 8 months and then took it back and got a TC29D and kept the 60" bucket. The new TC29D seems to handler the bucket pretty good. I would imagine I would have to watch how much dirt I put in it.

Back to your question, I think a 48" would be just right for your tractor, but a 54" might be better so you are wider than the tires of your tractor.

I would give the local dealer a call, get his recomendation and then get a price from him. You can always buy it someplace else.

For manure put an extension on it w/ tines like the old
loader tractors.
Could even bolt on a cutting edge but get a longer one
like 1/2 x 10 or 12" to give more capacity.
