310 john deere
I have a 1973 310b john deere backhoe and it hassteem comming from the vent in the top pan and also steem comming from the oil dipstick hole in the base can someone tell me what my problem is thanks.

If you have coolant in your engine oil, I'll say you have a blown head gasket. That's a best guess. What are you calling a top pan? The Coolant tank ?

Sounds like coolant/water in the oil leaky head gasket or worse.

Too see if you have coolant in the oil pull the drain plug while the engine is cold. Let some oil out and catch in a pail and then put the plug back in. Any water or coolant will be in the pail if the plug is close to being the lowest spot on the pan.
