Ken, please don't take offense, but I'm missing the point of this post. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer and tend to notice the differences in designs, but I would say that neither is a copy of the other. There are some similarities, but there are also some very distinct differences. I would not be suprised that each may have seen feature on the other that they liked and integrated into their own design because that's common. Of course, I'm a little jaded because I've seen true design theft where the parts are completely interchangable.

No, it's more likely because business is slow. What I see is just a little self-promotion from a paid advertiser. Salesmanship is all about visibility.

Well Ken, I have a land pride and I am very happy with it. It will finish mow as nice as my zero turn, and brush hog through 2-3' tall grass with ease. Easy to maintain and clean.

In the least sarcastic tone, who cares. The best floats to the top, so if other brands are copying ideas from other guys, that works out better for the consumer.

In the short term it sucks for the biz that did the r&d, they will recoup some money form first to market and brand buyers, but they will learn they need to innovate more or figure a way to lower r&d costs. Just a big cycle.

I think right now in companies are struggling with first to market , product test, and new products. No one wants the same model for a year and they don't seem to invest enough testing befor release.
