Having never used either attachment, I am at a loss of which will be best for my purpose. I have three acres of grass that I need to scarify and overseed. The ground has a lot of clay and in summer months is hard as Woodpecker lips. My dealer recommends lightly using a disc but I keep leaning towards a chain harrow like ABI implements has. You will probably have to add weight to the chain harrow but that's ok also. I do not farm or have pastures that the disc could be used other than scarifying the lawn when I overseed or when it needs airation. Which do you recommend?

Rent a 3-point power seeder/slit seeder. You'll spend less than buying a new disc (by quite a bit) Results will be much better. A disc will compact soil rather than aerify. You'll sratch the surface, but create more hard pack below working depth.

I'd also suggest waiting until closer to fall. Hot, dry summer weather is not a good time to seed grass. (You may already be aware of that...)

chain harrow will collect the grass and ball up .i would get a disk ,but a power seeder may work.

Slit seeder it is. Did not know about this type of attachment until now. After some internet research it seems like the perfect tool for the job. Thanks for the advice and for saving me from making an expensive mistake buying a disc or a chain harrow.

A landscape rake is another option. Set aggressively, it can do some good in your situation.
