I'm going to need to remove my blades and stumpjumper in my king kutter brush hog in order to tighten some bolts and probably replace a seal. Since I've done this once before, and it's a pain, I wondered about making it easier in the future. Would access holes through the stumpjumper, assuming I could dimple the edges in, be a bad move? I'm thinking that thing whipping around couldn't possibly snag on anything, but I'm sure willing to listen to reason.

Thanks.

What makes it hard? Do you have a hole in from the top? A hole in the top makes it easier to pull the blades (go in from the top with an impact or breaker bar)

I had a lazy dealer do this without telling me in advance on a large rhino and they try to charge extra for pulling out the torch, but that's another story. I will say changing them myself later on was much easier.

aczlan-

My bolts come from the bottom, and the nut attaches on top. I used loc tite, but with enough rattling, something gives. The nuts appear to still be stuck to the threads on the bolt, but if you spin the nut, the bolt spins too and the whole housing is not fast anymore. There are access holes, but they appear to be for the bolts on the blades. I don't have any tools that can go through those access holes and hold on to the bolts.

Are you saying you do have holes cut through your stumpjumper? Have you had any problems since adding them?

Thanks.

why not just drop the stump jumper with blades attached?
