as FWJ and others said.. howse is just as good as any other brand when compairing their light duty economy lines.

800$ is way way WAY too much. down here you can get a howse 4' hog for 675$ brand new on the dealers lot.

Agree with the above. For that money go try to find a new one.

I have a 5' Howse and they're good little economy cutters so long as you're not trying to take down a forest with one. Some of the decking is a tad thin but it's tight as a drum, smooth, and can make a very nice looking cut on pasture grass.

I bought a new 5' Howse about 10 years ago. I think I paid around $600. I have beat this mower up. Other than one trip to the weld shop, this mower does the job. Mow high and your mower will last a very long time.

i just got a howse 5' mower for next to nothing from a local dealer I buy a used tractor or implement from yearly.. he usually sets aside stuff that comes in on trades that needs fixing and can't/won't sell and I get it for scrap prices as he has no real facilities to fix much there.

i had to fab a new tail wheel fork and buzz up pne cracked weld, tighten some nuts and bolts and tighten a 3pt lift pin.

gear box had oil in it but some moisture so flushed it with diesel and refilled.

twist coupler was frozen up.. i set it into a bucket of used motor oil thinned with diesel while I worked on the mower. got it freed up.

mower is now ready for light duty fence trimming and row mowing. my cost? some electricity, welding rods and scrap 3/8x2" bar stock, a couple bolts and some time.

Hey Soundguy , just wandering, do you have a pic of it after you put it back together? Looks like nice cutter and an easy fixer upper.

I just bought a tractor that came with it. It's a 5'er with slip clutch. It does have a stump jumper which my other one didn't have. I've only put about 2hrs on it but it cut very nice!!! The brush was about 4' high and had no problems clipping through it at a pretty decent speed.
But yeah even though it is only 2 months old it is stilled "used"
Tractor Supply has one for $50 more plus tax ;-) But there is more support across the top.

Soundguy, that thing looks in great shape for the price. If you even paid the scrap price for it you may have paid what $40 at most? That thing was backed into a hill with a good sized tractor or something. But dang not much wrong with it. Looks used for what a few years at most! Bet it hasent mowed 60 acres and prolly has less than 50 hours on it, unless they kept it inside untill the end of life.

    Soundguy,
That is the exact brush hog i have. Except your looks new compared to mine. I have totally abused mine and it is still mowing strong. The shape that baby is in you should get many good years out of it for sure..

BTW- my tail wheel did the exact same thing.

it's fixed and running fine now. I sharpened the blade.. checked the gearbox lube again and off it went.
