Howse Brush Hog

Can anyone tell me if a Howse brand brush hog is any good? I have never heard of them, but there is a 48inch one for sale close to me, 2 months old like new condition for 800 bucks, just didnt know if that was a good deal or not.

Just bought a new King Kutter 60" for $948 w/shear pin

I think the machines under $1K are built the same...

How you maintain & operate them will tell how long they hold up...

I don't know anything about their mowers but I just bought a used Howse 48" tiller that I am impressed with. I needed a manual and 3 tines. I wasn't sure of the part numbers so I called the number on the web site and they were very helpful and sent them right out.

I have a Howse 60" brush hog. It has been used and abused and still works well. I think the price is a tad high. You could probably come close to a brand new 4ft one for that price.

From what I see, and what I hear from Howse owners, their products are as good as any economy level mowers on the market. If you're doing light to medium duty work, and just don't want to shell out big dollars for a high end brand light duty mower, go for it. Once you make the jump up to heavy duty mowers (meaning the NEED for a heavy duty mower) brands I'd recommend narrow somewhat. (and cost goes up accordingly) Light to medium duty rated mowers aren't rocket science, nor should they cost as much as a rocket to Mars...

I had a 60" Howse 500 (light duty model) that I used a great deal with my B2710 Kubota. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

I think $800 is just about new price (at least around here) for a Howse 4ft BH, so that is too much for one that is used (even though very little). I wouldn't pay anymore than $500 for it myself, but that's JMHO.

I have a 5 ft. House its really old, I traded a model airplane for it several years ago. After cleaning an changing the oil. I use it every year its a good mower.

I use a 5 ft. howse and when lower seal went out and stripped a gear contacted the web site for parts and they are great to show parts diagram and guickly shipped parts.
They are as tough as needed to get the brush mowed for the adverage user .All so American made.
All brands are going to have problems when rocks ,tree branches and what they are used for gets slung out. When something comes loose weld it back on again.
Be sure the PTO shaft has a soft metal shear pin When it locks up something has to give a bolt is the cheapest part.
For just field weeds and such have a JD 400 X rotory cutter.

I bought a 5' Howse bush hog (not light duty) and beat the stuffing out of it for 25 years or so. I've put the blades thru the deck. The darn thing just keeps on keepin' on.
