Since there are no local dealers I will need to purchase a BX42 from either Iowa Farm or WC. I know these are rather heavy duty and fairly simple machines, so I don't really expect any problems BUT what happens IF I do have a warranty issue? Am I stuck with the shipping cost ($250 one way) to have it taken care of? Or, would I be better off just repairing it myself? I can buy a Woods TCH4500 locally but the price is several hundred more and I would really prefer the BX42 since it is direct drive (no belts to replace) and has the discharge chute.

In my opinion...... I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep worrying about getting warranty work done on a Wallenstein chipper. They are simple, stout, and dead reliable. Use the search function here on TBN for other owners opinions of their Wallenstein chippers. I don't ever recall anyone owning a Wallenstein ever needing warrany work (or any other work) in the years I've been a member here. I used to have the BX62R with hydraulic feed and loved it. When the day comes that I need a chipper again, the Wallenstein would be my first choice.

I agree. I did find one post from someone who had a problem. Actually they thought a twig breaker had been broken/lost during operation and were just trying to get a replacement part. Turns out it was a bad weld and after sending pictures to WC (at WC's request - btw) they shipped the new part under warranty. Think eveything will be fine - not really worried. Bad welds are main concern. Could have that fixed locally though and maybe they would cover that under warranty (with photos)?

Learjet,
Sounds like my problem... Sent them pics and got the replacement part under warranty and no problem since. Over 120 hrs now and counting.

NOTV8, yep it was yours! Obviously you are pleased with your Wally and WC - that's good to hear. Thanks for the info.

Well I got lucky - my local Kubota dealer is getting a new BX42 for me! In orange too! That takes care of any warranty concerns. Plus it will be uncrated, assembled and tested before I pick it up. Should be here first of next week - can't wait! Of course it's so hot here right now (100+ the last 3 weeks) I probably won't be using it too much until it cools down a bit.
