Other then the Herd Seeder Model M96 which several folks have suggested (the best price I have found is not very good, list at $410.00 with tax $434.00). What other spreader do you use on your Kubota BX2200? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif My concern is because of the low ground clearance any old spreader will not work. I see spreaders from $225 and up. I really do not want to spend $434 if I can find a spreader for less. I plan on using it several times a year to do my 2 acres of lawn. What do you use and what did you pay for it?

Thanks

Tom,

I have the Herd Spreader. What I have found is it is best to keep the 3 point set fairly low. There is less drift this way and also you don't spread the pattern out so far. I will also double my spreading by going one direction first and then perpendicular next. I set my spreader at half of what I need to accomplish this.

I guess what I am saying is, even though you have a low tractor it should work ok for you. You may even want to write to Herdseeder and ask them your question.

Also you may have to cut the PTO shaft off some to work with your tractor. I had to for my TC21D and then I got a 29D so my cut off PTO shaft is too short, so I had to order another PTO shaft (part of murphy's law)

The Befco 203-120 is a Category 1/0 broadcaster that has most of the features of the bigger Befco broadcasters. The lift pins are sleeved to category 1 diameter and the arm width and mast height to the toplink are perfect for the BX and other sub-compacts. You'll probably find them for under $350. I know the JD and Kubota dealers in my area sell these things to match the limited cat 1 lifts. I have one for my 2210.

BigPete,

That spreeder does look like a pretty nice one especially being able to change the spreeder pattern. I thought I looked that one before I bought mine and it was around the $500.00 mark. I could be wrong.

The spreed pattern on that one might be nicer than the Herd. My Herd does tend to spread more to one side but easy to compensate.

Rather than ordering direct from Herd you should check some dealers. My M-96 was 350 dollars plus tax. I doubt they have gone up that much. Dealers always get a cut rate from a manufacturer but may not always pass it on.
There is not a lot out there between the plastic tubs on plastic wheels from Home Depot and the huge ag stuff. All this tractor stuff is expensive, hey, I bet that is why many folks hire this sort of work done. J

Actually Herd would not allow me to order from them direct. They quoted me a price and then told me to call a dealer. I went to the guy that I ordered my tractor from and he gave me the same price.

My Befco was $330 plus shipping to my dealer, and I may be getting a break because a fair portion of my disposable income has been transferred to that dealer in the last few years. Still, I would think most dealers would sell that spreader for around $400 to $450 at the most.

The Herd is a very nice unit too, and probably better for throwing seed than the Befco. I've seen one first hand but never used the Herd. The seed gate seemed a little more controlable on the Herd, but the Befco is just a little heavier, bullet-proof and great for throwing fertilizer and dry sand.

Mark from CCM has a GSM 350 for $225, I wonder who manufactures a GSM /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Guess I will have to wait from him to answer my e-mail. But $225 sounds a lot better then $434! But I have a feeling it will be too big for a bx2200. Herd does not sell direct, and dealers around here only quote retail, guess that is why I got my BX from a dealer 150 miles away /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Look at tractor supply... our local stores have a smaller 'light duty' 3pt spreader great for small tractors. I'm sure you can find then on the web site. I bought mine a year ago on sale for like 189$.. I think they are just over 200 right now.

The best part is they are light.. easy to hook up.. and the pto shaft is a flexible line.... no hassels.

I've done my 13 acres many times with seed and fertalizer in the last couple years.

I found this link in their master catalogue.. but seems prices are higher than I saw in the local stores this weekend.. anyway.. you can look at it anyway:

How does that flex shaft work? Just cuious. The TSC around here only have units that are way to big for a BX or even 2410.
All this farm stuff is overpriced. J
