I bought a Hardee 5 ft rotary cutter about forty years ago but its time for a new cutter.I dont plan on needing the next one that long but was wondering what would be the next best because the Hardee is abit pricey.I am looking for maybe a 6 or 7 ft 3ph cutter for mowing tall grass in my vineyard. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hard to beat either Landpride or Bush Hog.

The Bush Hog medium duty cutters hold up the best in the vineyards around here. The cheap entry level models don't last so don't even consider them. I lost faith in Woods with my MD172 problems and have changed to Bush Hog. Woods is only popular here because the local dealer sells them. But there are plenty of Bush Hog mowers as well since the MD line hurt the Woods reputation.

Thanks Robert, mostly grass is what we mow too. I have a 5ft flail but it is to slow for mowing but works good for grinder up vines after prunning time in the winter

I currently have a 5 ft. TSC rotary mower, but if I had my druthers, I have a Rhino.

What brand flail do you run? Some of the big farms run the flails with the gatherers on both sides after trimming. They do a great job of chopping up the trimmings and the gatherers pull in what the trimmers let fall so when their done the vineyard floor looks great. After the initial cut though they change to a brush chopper to cut the grass later in the season.

The TSC cutters (as well as most entry level rotary choppers) don't hold up to vineyard use. The gearbox holds up fine but the deck just disintergrates.

Landpride "26" series is hard to beat,

Like most things, I don't believe there is a "best", just several good alternatives as it seems you can always find someone who doesn't like one brand or the other. In that size, I really like my Land Pride RCR26; I also like Woods, but have never owned one under 10', so have no experience. I haven't used anything else recently, but know Bush Hog has a good reputation. I used to use the "economy" brands, but got tired of replacing them every few years.
