New cost from my dealer was $1250

Yes several people were taking a good look at that load.

I dont think the JD guys believed me when I first said I wanted it put up there.

 We had some rain today and looking for more soon. As the ground softens up I will be using the new implement.

Does anyone have any tips for the operation of the land plane?? I assume slower ground speeds will be best??

Well, the beauty is it's super easy! Hard to mess up. Just level it front-to-back with the top link, drop it to the ground & drive around  If you want it to dig more, shorten the top link a little (this works on softer material, not hard limerock).

Just take it slow to start with. You will find that it also works very good in reverse for smoothing and leveling softer material. Do you have top and tilt? Top and tilt work great with land plane grader blades.

You'll be an expert in no time. ;)

I would second the need for topntilt.

When running in reverse watch the rear ends of the skids and raise them up ever so slightly to keep them from digging in.
When running forward adjust the toplink again to set the skids flat while in motion.
This achieves better results than a fixed toplink, I should add that with the angled blades on your 1196 you can adjust the toplink to vary the crowning too. You can build a crown with multiple passes but it is slow imo. Crowning is still much easier with a good rear blade.

Hard to beat what can be done with a good rear blade. ;) Don't get me wrong, the landplane grader blades are indispesable for me. I even have 2 of them that I use, a 5' and 7'. But as we all know, there is no one implement that does it all.

Brian,
Looking at your pics it seems your soil is sandy. Bet it is hard to keep in place, suspect you have to do an inordinate amount of blading to keep the road in shape. Looks like some clay would help, maybe lime the roads?

Steve, actually the roads are DG and need to be graded every 3-4 months to make them like glass. Rain, snow does not matter, the roads actually hold up very well. My brother can drive over them with his semi when they are wet and they do not get messed up. When the roads are dry they are ROCK hard and when they are damp they grade very well. A big wash out for us might be 1" deep. Been driving on the main road pretty much how it is, going on 12 years and have had zero problems. The pictures of my rear blade grading a road are actually when I was working on a new road to the top of our property. The worst part of our road is at the end down by the paved road. There are 5 properties that use the road and it can get wash board down on the flat area closer to the paved road. As you know, wash boarding is an area that is best graded with a land plane. Just one of the areas that a land plane grader blade really shines.
