Mahindra 4x4 30 hrspwr
I have a Mahindra 3015 4x4 and found a 120 gallon three point sprayer on craigslist. Can anyone tell me if this size sprayer will work on my tractor, weight wise, or what the maximum size sprayer that would work on this size tractor. Also is a PTO driven pump the way to go over an electrical pump.

any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks,

I have a sprayer that is 20 gallon. I built it my self. I went with the electric pump cause when i got off to use the wand with a pto pump my tractor would shut off(safety switch) unless i put the e brake on and then i would forget it after i got back on. The electric pumps dont use alot of energy and i find that the 20 gallon tank is a perfect size as i dont do enough spraying each year to make it worth having a bigger one. Im sure you tractor would handle a 120 gallons easy but do you need one that big. I think if i could go to a 35 or 40 gallon tank i would be happier as i wouldnt have to fill as often but on the other hand the small tank if nice for getting into small places.

I appreciate the feed back. My situation is this, I have 21 acres that I purchased from an individual that is crosses fenced for horses. The individual did not maintain the property and the entire property is now over grown with something like coyote brush. This stuff has grown all through the no climb fence and barbwire. You can't mow it, and the only other way to remove it, that I have found, is to use a mini excavator with thumb to pluck each bush one by one. So I thought spraying all the fence line with round up over the next couple of "years" may be my only answer. This is the reason for the bigger tank.

From TractorData.com Mahindra 3015 tractor information

It says the Rear lift: 2205 lbs (Do you have a FEL and or Weights up front?)

If the sprayer weighs 400# that leaves 1800# / (8#/gallon) = 225 lbs

How much spraying are you going to do? Even at 10 gpa... you'll be able to spray 12 acres with the 120 gallon sprayer.

PTO pumps are good if you take care of them. Electric is easier but mainly for smaller sprayers. I have a 15 gallon one and would rather fill it up a few times. I don't spray large areas, just the mile long driveway.

It has a FEL but no weights. Good point on the coverage but I was trying to minimize my travel back to the barn, especially with the diesel prices hear in CA.

check the manual for the max. weight rating of the three point. Add weight of sprayer plus liquid. (120 gallons x 8.35 = 1002 lbs)
If you are rear heavy on the tractor, simply scoop up some dirt/gravel for front counterweight.

120 gallons of Roundup goes a long, long way... What is the price of the sprayer? If it's a good price, you don't have to fill it all the way up to use it. Make sure the pump works since that's pretty high $$$

$900 for sprayer although no reply so it may be sold already.

Based on my experience using sprayers on farms, a 120 gal 3 pnt sprayer is going to be too big for a 30 hp tractor. When we used a 3 pnt sprayer with a tank that large we had it on a 60hp+ full size ag tractor. A 30 hp compact might lift it, but i wouldn't want to try and drive it around. That much liquid with an unbaffled tank could produce some puckerage or worse.

I would suggest a 55gal 3 pnt model. you should be able to pick one up with a pto pump for well less than 900 and use the money you save to pay for the little bit of extra diesel. Or if you have long distance to go, you could set up nurse tank on a trailer.
