I am looking at a case 350 dozer in fair shape but it has a couple of issues. The first is the blade rake angle cylinder, that is the cylinder on the right side standing up behind the blade appears to have stuck from sitting as it will not move when you pull the lever however all the other cylinders work. The second issue is there is a noticeable noise in the engine. There is about 50 hours on it since it has been rebuilt. I had a mechanic look at it and he says it apppears to be coming from the pushrod area but to me it sounds like a wrist pin or worse , a bearing noise. The owner will not let me take the valve cover off for inspection. It is strictly as is where is. There is no miss in the engine and the black smoke clears up in a few seconds after starting. Does anyone have any thoughts on these 2 problems.

The cylinder ram could be bent, otherwise it should move. Maybe the valve/spool for that cylinder is not working properly or is leaking by the o-rings on the spool. As for the engine noise. Figure worst case scenario, what it would cost to fix. Take that off the asking price and go from there. Otherwise, that dozer is a dime a dozen and if you really want/need one, you should be able to find one online pretty easy in better shape. Maybe even look for a newer one with a 6 way finish blade.
