I can't resist stirring the mower pot

I notice you failed to mention the Kubota Dealer in my town . . .
What dealer is that? I know of one in Victor, but Dad had some problems with them going significantly over their quote on a job and taking most of the winter for a job that they said would take 2-3 weeks.
So, I don't recommend them for service (no idea how their sales people are).

I contract mow ditch banks and berms every summer and I use an 8 foot side (3ph) mount disc mower. Much faster travel speed plus it folds up for transport.

And......it's on an orange tractor, cause that's all I own.

As I understand it disc mowers are great for grass and weeds but won't handle woody stuff well and will get damaged more easily with rocks. So if the banks and berms are nice grass like most larger roads have then it'd work well. In our situation the ditches have lots of hidden rocks as it's roads through rough country and I think we'd kill a disc mower fairly quickly. As always it really depends on the situation to pick the right tool for you.

The trick to that if you will, is watching where you are cutting all the time, angle the cutter bar/head sections at a less acute angle and modify the underside of the bar/head sections to allow float over obstacles. The underside is extensively modified and hard rodded.

One reason I like the sidemounted discmower. I can see, closely, what it's mowing and I don't mow close anyway. Typically, I mow to leave a grass height of around 5". It's a ditchbank not a lawn. I set my groundspeed (at 540) around 2 mph or even less if the ditchbank is really trashy.

Lots of trash on the berms.... maybe even a few dead carcasses of unidentifyable origin.

I have a friend who has a Landpride pantograph hydraulic brush hog that extends almost 20 feet (lots of side ballast on the tractor) that he does deep ditches with but it's very hard to observe excatly what the cutter is cutting.

My sidemount articulates almost 40 degrees down from level and 35 up. Plenty to do what I do.
