Box Scraper hydraulic box blade recommendations

I am looking for a box blade with hydraulic scarifiers. I think I have it narrowed down to a Landpride HR25 series (72") and the RHINO HB72 (72") box blades. Does anyone have any first hand experience with either of these blades? Are hydraulic scarifiers worth the extra cost? Are there any other brands or models that you would recommend? Thanks.

Look at Woods Gannon, Frontier and Cammond. Lots of choices some much heavier than others and higher in cost.

Hydraulic scarifiers make it easy to work with but it really depends on how much you will be using a boxblade. I would recommend having topntilt hydraulics as a first priority, thats two rear circuits. If you have a third rear circuit then the hydraulic scarifiers would be great.

I have a Frontier 1284 made by Woods Gannon, 35 cubic feet capacity, 84" width with the hyd. scarifiers, about 1260 lbs. Very satisfied with it so far, here's some pics.

Like Steve I also have the Gannon(Woods) BB with hydraulic scarifers and am pleased with it. If it is roadwork you're planning to do then you might find that non-hydraulic scarifers would not be much extra trouble. However, If you plan to do a lot of field leveling then the hydraulic scarifiers would be an asset. One thing I found with the Gannon when the scarifers are reversed, for a less aggressive bite, they cannot retract as they hit the back blade. This maybe the case with the other manufacturers too. The Rhino you list is comparable to the Gannon but it would be the Landpride HR35 series that matches up to the other two. From looking at the specifics the 3 mentioned are comparable on paper. I would only check on ease of scarifer height adjustment. .........Gary

Are you planning on buying new or used? You might be able to find one used for a good deal, although they are few and far between unfortunately.

I'm not opposed to buying used if I can find one in good shape for a good price. My experience with buying used is most of the time the stuff is junk, but is being priced at better than new costs!

I think buying used is a good idea if you can find it. A boxblade is pretty straight forward, easy to see damage compared to engines and transmissions.
