I have a Kubota L3430 and want to buy a mower (possibly Bushhog) to cut 25 acres of rolling hills land. What would you recommend?

I have the same tractor & use a 7' finish mower & plan on getting a 6' rotary cutter for the rough stuff. Works for me.

Several things:

1.your budget
2. your time or the lack of it
3. your desired level of cut/finish
4. your time or the lack of it.
5. I have no interest in sticking my hand in your wallet pocket.
6. a rotary cutter will leave a lot of unshredded brush after mowing.
7. rotary cutters are responsible for a lot of property damage and
deaths of bystanders at long distances.
8. your time or lack thereof.

You have plenty of power for a 7 or eight foot new or
used flailmower with your tractor and there are
many good new and used flailmowers for sale.

You can run a used 10 foot flailchopper and cover a lot
of ground quickly even at a very low speed and knock
everything down to the sod as the flail choppers with the
wide scoop knives also act as air paddles/impellers to lift
the brush away quickly as it cuts it.

We used a Ford Jubilee with a 7 foot John Deere
Finish Cut Flail Mower and had no issues mowing
down 10 foot golden rod in overgrown pasture land.

Its no secret that you can mow quickly when shredding
winter killed brush that is not snow covered as it contains
very little moisture in the plant cells.

That why its always a good idea to mow down any late fall,
early winter growth of frost killed brush down to the ground.

Once you knock it down it will not grow back as quickly as the
growth from last year is not there to allow moisture and
photosynthesis to occur in the same brush.

Once you go flail you never go back:thumbsup::licking::drool:

Thanks for the help. Would the Bush Hog RD series - #5 work with my Kubota L3430? I can get one for a good price from my local dealer.

Thanks for the great post. I don't have a flail mower and don't have enough justification to get one but I have a tough old bush hog type mower. When you say down to the ground do you literally mean down to the ground or is a couple of inches close enough?

The RD series seems to be a new and very light duty mower. It is lighter than the Squealer series from Bush Hog and the Squealer used to be their light duty line. I would not recommend anything lighter duty than the Squealer. I had a Squealer 480 (48") on my previous tractor and it was a fine mower. Check out the price on the Squealer 600 (60") instead.

The RD would probably be fine for cutting well maintained pasture but it won't stand up to abuse like a Squealer or even better the medium duty Bush Hog line up (285).
