I have the same chipper also from Ranch Hand Supply. Great chipper for the money but I did make a few modification. First the feed drum would slip so I made a new one (picture 1). The bed knife - - - not sure what the proper name is but it is the stationary blade - - wouldn't stay close enough so a installed a spacer (picture 2). Finally I found that the blades got dull quickly - - I made some new ones out of D2 steel and had them hardened - - they stay sharp much longer now. I made a couple of other modifications but nothing big. I love the chipper now and use it all the time.

Holy Cow, that's a pretty impressive feed roller.

I talked to a local fab shop here and it was going to be very expensive to make up new blades with better steel so I have 2 sets and the dull ones go out for sharpening when I change them out.

Another use for my chipper is making chips for an Alder Smoked Salmon dinner. I strip the bark off a couple 4" fresh cut trees and run them through the chipper. I made 25#'s of chips for a fish fry this Sunday at a friends house.

Nice job on the roller. Where did you find them teeth?? i wouldn't mind doing the same thing.

I now have a fresh set of cutting blades, ill send the old out for sharpening.

Hey Johninct,
I have same chipper, it's been great,
I took out the feed drum and cut much more aggressive teeth in the feed roller tooth bars with a mini grinder with a cut off wheel, it works 300% better for feeding ,,, pulls the stuff right out of your hands

Got pictures? need to do something like this with mine.

Yep, that's the kind of thing I was thinking needed to be done. Thanks.

grsthegreat - - I made the teeth from a bar of high strength steel. It helps to have a milling machine and lathe in the garage:).

The teeth weren't too expensive but - - - the D2 steel for new blades:(

Hmm, you need to market those things :)

That is a healthy looking feed roller:thumbsup:, but I don't think it would have helped me on Saturday. The last end piece of a 5" limb got caught up behind the roller and stopped it, thereby smoking the feed drive belt before I could get it stopped. It's seems that there is too much space between the feed roller and flywheel. This is an 8" Liberty but I think it has identical innards.

I removed the worthless foot release today. No matter how hard I stomped on it, it would not release the drive clutch. I think the long cable has too much flex. I also added a Weasler slip clutch to the PTO. Maybe it would save the 5 drive belts on possibly the independent PTO clutch on my Branson should I bog it down.

DeeDubya - - - I found the same problem with the Jinma release. Ended up taking it off and just putting a handle on the release. I also put a stop so I could hold the release handle in the release position for when I get things stuck which still does happen - - but not as often. Mostly when I try to feed too big a large forked branch.
