I have a 5' brush hog (tuffy 5 I think) and I'm replacing the underneath cutting assembly. I can't get the assembly off the shaft after the nut is removed. Is there a puller for this? thanks,

Try tapping through the blade access holes on top of the deck. Hit a few times then turn the pan 180 degrees/repeat. This worked on my Frontier RC1072 a couple days ago :thumbsup:

Put the nut part of the way back onto the shaft. If it has a provision for a cotter pin, put one in. If it's a self-locking nut, thread it on far enough so that the nut won't fall off. Just make sure that it's not tight against the stump-jumper, blade holder, whatever it is. Engage the pto and run it. It will come loose.

That is to easy. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

If that works I am embarressed by all the hammering, pounding, and hub puller improvising I have done in the past.
Next time I will try that first. Thanks for the great tip.

Tried it didn't work. Even hit a few stumps to try and knock it loose. I've had it off before, but it must have really sealed up. Thanks for advice. Walt

Did you set the shaft end down on a a solid piece of oak when you tried Rockgod's suggestion?

IIRC, that's a tapered shaft. It's really hard to break them loose, but that will usually do it.
How long did you run it? You may just have to do it some more. Do you have a neighbor that needs some mowing done? ;)
Another question, but did you back off the nut several turns? (plenty of room for the stump-jumper to drop down the shaft)

I used 2 short pieces of chain with round loops on them, put the loops on the top of blade nuts. Loosened nut on blade carrier part of the way, hooked the chains together and set a 20 ton hydraulic on the chain, as it started up I slid a flat piece of metal between jack and nut.Got back out of the way and kept jacking. It popped loose and slid down against the nut.
