While we were in Raleigh Saturday to visit child & grandchild, I took the opportunity to head over to the Garner Agri-Supply to pick up a 59" Caroni finish mower. The loader went out, picked one up & loaded it in the truck bed and I headed on back.

My fault for not thoroughly checking it out before it was loaded or my driving off.

Turns out the item they loaded was 3 years old (a March 2008 date on the ID plate). Besides sunfade on the PTO shields and paint, there were various patches of rust. Topping it off was that only 2 of the 3 remote grease lines were installed (and both being pinched under the belt covers). The missing third line was the one for the center spindle, which not only didn't have a remote line installed, it didn't have a zerk either - just an open hole in the spindle. Heck, from the amount of sand & dirt under the covers, it might even have been a returned item.

Looks like I get to do a return trip Monday or Tuesday - 100 mile or so round trip...

I've learned my lesson the hard way in situations such as this, now I always check, even on smaller stuff close to home.

Great mower by the way, hope it all works out for you!

Hey Nikdfish,

I work for agri supply, and just happen to see your post this morning, while spending some time at my son's house for the holiday. Please bring the mower back on Tuesday or when it is convenient for you. We will gladly replace it, or refund your money. We will take care of your gas expenses for you. I am very sorry that you have had this problem with this merchandise. We want you to have a good experience in shopping with us. Please ask for the manager Andy Lassiter or the asst. manager Mike Corbett. I will speak with both of them on Tuesday morning and make them aware of you returning the mower. You may also ask for me and I will be glad to help you also... Looking forward to meeting and helping you.

Nice to hear there are still businesses like this around that will correct problems.

Another point of view is that the problem shouldn't have happened in the first place. But errors will be made - it is making them right that is the measure of a good business.

That's great customer service! It's nice to see that the businesses we frequent also read the forums.

I have learned that no matter what you buy or where it comes from...always open up the box, (if it's in one), before leaving the parking lot and look things over. I have made that mistake too many times also...and now it's ingrained in my little pea brain...

Mr. Powell,

Thank you very much for your posting. I do appreciate your sentiments and will be by either Tuesday, or the first non-rainy day coming up. I have been very happy with other items I have acquired through Agri-Supply and would still like to get the Caroni if there are any available in good condition.

Just like TSC and expect full price.

You can only expect so much of a retail box store. Good to here they are going to take care of you.

I've had first class service at the agri-supply Petersburg va store, fwiw. Things happen, it's how the store deals with them that matters most...
