I have seen many people in different forums discuss grading long driveways, wishing to make road beds, access roads, prepare pads for barn construction, etc.

I ran across this ad in one of the farm publications I receive. It looks interesting so I thought I would share with all.

I know nothing of the company or how well this grader works / or doesn't work. I'm sure if anybody out there owns or uses one like it we all will hear about it.

I have seen these in a larger scale used for leveling field in the central valley of California. It always struck me that for a smaller scale such as pictured that one could make one fairly inexpensively if they own a longish trailer and a blade.

Gearmore is now selling a similar product called a "Drag Scraper." It looks like a box scraper, without scarifiers, pulled by a long tow bar with support wheels trailing. Most have a hydraulic piston raise or lower the box. Stated purposes vary from roads to dairy/feed lot scraping, material moving. From 5 to 12 feet wide, from 500 to 2000 lbs. JonB

Looks a little like the pull behind graders that were used by the state and local highway departments when I was growing up in the 1950's. These were towed by dump trucks and had a place for a man to stand and adjust the blade (with manual controls) You still see them occasionally on privrately owned camp roads. No reason why it shouldn't work o.k.

I've seen these work and if the material is loose they work really well but it you have any kind of hard packed dirt they don't do anything. You also have to have alot of room to work them in and they don't work well for small places. Also they take a long time to work if you are doing small place. In my opinion they're just overpriced rear blades.

Interesting, I never saw one of these before your post, although I've heard them described. So today I see one like this only larger and with dual wheels being pulled by a tractor.
I couldn't really tell but it looked like a massey in the 90-100 class. He was blading a dirt road. I went back later when I had more time, to get a closer look but it was gone. The road he had been working on looked pretty darn good.

I've only seen the pictures of that grader, but I have a neighbor who has an 11' box blade with hydraulically controlled gauge wheels (full size car tires). It's pulled by the drawbar, not the 3-point, he can raise it high enough to pull down the road or lower it until he lifts both wheels clear of the ground. I've watched him work with it and it's sure a fine rig. Of course he's pulling it behind a 120hp Deere. He and I built the parking lot for the new fire station a couple of years ago. He did about 95% of it with his big rig and I did the work in the tight spots with my little B7100 and 4' box blade./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
