Tractor
New Holland TC35D w/ 16LA FEL
I am about a week away from taking delivery of my TC35D.
I have the choice of either a 60" or 72" heavy duty quick tach bucket. One of the things that I found incredibly handy with my JD and it's 61" bucket was the ability to use the loader to compact my dumpster. It's amazing how much more trash you can fit in with a little assistance.
I am sure that most everybody chooses the 72" for obvious reasons. And I would to for the obvious reasons, but it is to wide to fit down into the dumpster.
So I guess my questions is. Other than the ability to carry a little more capicity / weight. What else am I really loosing by going with a 60".
Let me know your ideas and opinions this. The dealer has both in stock and is waiting to hear from me as to what size to put on.

See what kind of deal and get BOTH.
U might get the extra one for 1/2 price /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Are u getting forks for FEL ?
If so use them to compress dumpster.
U'll need the 72" to cover rear track, if not any digging or scraping and part of rear tires will ride on uncut ground.
If pushing snow same problem w/ tires packing snow down.
Another option is get 72" bucket and look for a used 60" off SSL, these are cheaper and often heavier built.

Good question. I would consider purchasing the 60" if doing the compacting is really important. You are correct that the loader can do a nice job of compacting. I used to use a 4N1 bucket to do the compacting in dumpsters. With the jaw open and in the dump position, you can reach deep into the dumpster and compact well before it fills up. Maybe the 72" standard bucket for material moving advantages and back blading and a 4N1 in the 60" size for everything else especially since your getting the quick attach loader ability. Also, I would think that other manufactuers would make a bucket that would fit the 16 LA, there are buckets made in the 66" width as well. I think if it were me and I could fit a 66" in the dumpster, thats what I would do. Check out Woods or Quicke for loader buckets. The TC35 looks like a terrific tractor. I can imagine there will be a huge difference with it over the smaller JD you had. Rat...

Hoeman00,
Those are all good points to consider. I think I will call the salesman today and see just how good of a deal he will give my on buying the extra 60" bucket. even if it is the light duty one.
I am presently not getting any forks, although there are times that they would come in handy. I would think that the forks would do more piercing of the trash bags then actually compressing them.

RaT,
Compacting the dumpster is actually very important. I run a small trash route for several of my year round and seasonal clients. The more I trash I can get in the dumpster the better.
The fewer extra pick ups I need to call Waste Management for, the more profit I can stick in my pocket and the quicker I can pay my tractor off.
My dumpster is only a 2 cubic yard and the 61" of my JD slides right down in side to side, so even a 66" is out of the ?
It truly seems foolish to buy a seperate bucket for simply squishing garbage, but I am not sure what other alternative I have.

Consider what Hoeman00 says about having the bucket wide enough to cover your tracks. Especially in deeper snow it can get to be a mess having the snow fall back into your tire path.

Try and go for two buckets. But you might want some type of quick attach system. Changing buckets without can be a pain.

W/ forks always grab a pallet and use it to compress.
How long is the dumpster?
Can u get in sideways?
Can u get a little larger dumpster and not dump as often/

The 35D has Q-T like SSL

thcri,
The tractor is coming with a New Holland quick tach system.
I did some online checking this morning and have found that I can get a new Bobcat 60" GP bucket for around $400.
I spoke with my salesman this morning as well and told him of the bucket width verses tractor width concern and we both aggreed that the 72" was indeed the intelligant bucket to get with the tractor. I told him to do some very serious pencil sharpening on the 60" bucket and if they were willing to make me and incredably awesome deal that I would possibly buy both buckets. I will know better Monday.
I am also going to call Bobcat of New Hampshire on Monday and see if they might have any used 60" buckets. I certainly don't need a new one for merely squishing trash.

Hoeman00,
attacking from the side isn't really an option, the dumpster is only maybe 3'.
As far as going a bigger dumpster. I only have it emptied twice a month during the busy season and maybe once a month during the winter. A larger dumpster is just that much more expensive to keep and have dumped. And during the hot season I don't really want the trash hanging around for to long. PHewwww !!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Mark,

If it were me I would probably regret buying a junk 60 inch bucket [Not to imply that your are planning to buy junk /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ], thinking that I was only going to compact trash with it, UNLESS it is real easy to swap buckets...

I guess it is quite easy to swap with the quick tach setup, but knowing ME, I would probably end up leaving the 60 inch on most of the time...since it sounds like garbage squashing is a regular chore.

If price used were close to the price of new...I'd probably spring for the new if it cost only a bit more. That's because after half a century I know myself pretty well now /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Like many others, I would not want to be without a bucket wider than my rear tires for those times when it is needed.

Enjoy the new tractor!

It sounds like the dumpster work is a significant part of your use. Given that, I'd just get the smaller bucket. Down the road, if you find you have a sufficiently compelling need to add a larger bucket, you can always buy one then.

I think all the other recommendations on the site for larger buckets presume the larger bucket doesn't sacrifice anything other than potentially ruggedness. In your case a larger bucket would come with a clear sacrifice for your use.
