Converting Cat 0 to 1?

I have a Cat 0 48" rototiller made by John Deere. I was wondering if anyone knew if it can be converted to be used on a Cat 1 CUT? Anyone know anything about this?

As for the pins, It should be easily exchanged from cat. 0 to 1 but i would expect to bore out some of the holes so the new pins would fit. What model tiller is hooking up to what model tractor? I also don't know if they have different PTO shafts but they might.

Its a JD 420 Garden tractor with a 48 inch tiller. PTO is different but I wouldnt think that would be too hard to convert.

Yeah, as far as power it will be no issue, you just don't want to over power the tiller. As for your PTO shaft, is it a shear pin system? Or is it a slip clutch system? My assumption would be a shear pin system for a tiller that size. It is likely that the shaft on the tiller gear box is also smaller diameter so if you had to match up the new larger diameter yolks to the small diameter shaft you will get a lot of play, a lot of noise, and constantly break shear pins. If the shaft itself will adapt from the small yolk which you would keep on the gear box end and the larger yolk on the tractor end you will have it made in the shade. I don't know if they take different diameter shafts though. As for the pins, you should have no problems at all converting them from category 0 to 1. :thumbsup:

I would make sure the PTO speed is the same. Alot of garden type tractors had 2000 rpm PTOs....... so they wouldn't work well on a 540 rpm PTO
